In the beginning of the nation of Israel, God was their King. After the years of the judges and at the time of Samuel, the last judge, the people decided they wanted a king like the other nations.
"And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice
of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee,
but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them." - 1 Samuel
8:7
".... And they said, Nay; but we will have a king over
us; that we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us,
and go out before us, and fight our battles." - 1 Samuel 8:19-20
When the fulness of the time was come, the Lord overshadowed
a young virgin causing her to conceive. This baby boy was God in a human body,
the Son of God. (Isaiah 9:6, Galatians 4:4, Luke 1:35).
"Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring
forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is,
God with us." - Matthew 1:23
When Jesus was born, He came as King of the Jews.
Wise men from the east came seeking this King,
"Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for
we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him." - Matthew
2:2
Interestingly, the Jews once again rejected God as their
king.
"But they cried out, Away with him, away with him,
crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief
priests answered, We have no king but Caesar." - John 19:15 KJV
God will come again as King of kings. Every eye will see Him.
He will judge, go out before His people, and fight their battles. God, as the
Lamb of sacrifice which taketh away the sin of the world, is this King. His
name is JESUS. (Revelation 17:14, Revelation 1:7, Romans 14:10, John 1:29).
"These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall
overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are
with him are called, and chosen, and faithful." - Revelation 17:14
