BETHLEHEM - "HOUSE OF BREAD"
Jesus was born in Bethlehem.
"And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city
of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem;
(because he was of the house and lineage of David:) to be taxed with Mary his
espoused wife, being great with child.
"And so it was, that, while they were there, the days
were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her
firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger;
because there was no room for them in the inn." - Luke 2:4-7
God Himself, the Everlasting Father, put on flesh and was born a baby.
The King of kings and Lord of lords was born King of
the Jews.
"Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the
days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in
the east, and are come to worship him". - Matthew 2:1-2
"But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little
among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that
is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from
everlasting". - Micah 5:2
"Bethlehem" means "house of bread."
Jesus is the "Bread of Life."
"For the bread of God is he which cometh down from
heaven, and giveth life unto the world." - John 6:33
"And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that
cometh to me shall never hunger..." - John 6:35
"I am that bread of life." - John 6:48
"This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that
a man may eat thereof, and not die." - John 6:50
"I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if
any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will
give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world". - John 6:51
"This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as
your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall
live for ever." - John 6:58
