It is essential that we know and obey sound doctrine. It is essential, not only for ourselves, but that we teach our children so that they may also know and obey sound doctrine.

What sound doctrine must we know? That the LORD our God is one LORD and His name is JESUS. (Deuteronomy 6:4, John 5:43, Isaiah 45:21-23, Philippians 2:10-11, Acts 4:12.)

That we find forgiveness of sins by Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection when we repent and are baptized in Jesus name. He promises He will then fill us with His Holy Spirit. (1Corinthians 15:1-4, Acts 2:38-39)

After we repent, are baptized in Jesus name, and receive the Holy Ghost, we continue in the apostles’ doctrine. (Acts 2:42, 2Timothy 3:16-17)

"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." - Deuteronomy 6:4-5 KJV

"And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." - 2 Timothy 3:15 KJV

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." - Acts 2:38-39 KJV

The Great Commission in the Book of John

After Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, before He ascended to heaven, Jesus gave a commission to His disciples. Jesus told them to go, sending them into all the world to teach and preach the gospel, and to baptize in His name for the remission of sins. He also promised the peace of His presence would be with them always, for He would fill them with His Spirit, the Holy Ghost.

The Great Commission is found in the books of Matthew, as well as Mark and Luke. (Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15-18, Luke 24:46-49).

Where is the Great Commission found in the book of John?

"Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained." - John 20:21-23

What is the Gospel and How do we Obey the Gospel?

The Bible says the gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain." - 1 Corinthians 15:1-2

"For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" - 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

The Bible says we obey the gospel when we become dead to sin by repentance, we are buried by water baptism in Jesus name, and we are resurrected by the baptism of the Holy Ghost.

"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father [the Holy Ghost], even so we also should walk in newness of life." - Romans 6:1-4

The Bible tells us we must not only BELIEVE the gospel to be saved, we must also OBEY the gospel by being baptized (by water and by the Spirit). (2 Thessalonians 1:8, 1 Peter 4:17, John 3:5, Acts 2:38).

"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned." - Mark 16:15-16

When we turn to God, He wants 100% of our heart. Not just a portion. When we repent it is a complete turning our back on sin and turning to live for God. Our old sinful nature is put to death. We separate ourselves from that old nature and all that it involved.

Sunday, April 26, 2020

The Bible says that the sons of God are those that have turned from living a sinful lifestyle in the world, to living for God.

"Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." - 2 Corinthians 6:17-18

"For if ye live after the flesh [by its dictates], ye shall die: but if ye through the [power of the] Spirit do mortify [put to death] the deeds of the body [your sinful nature], ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." - Romans 8:13-14

The Bible says that if we are God’s sons, we must receive discipline, commands, instruction, and correction (“chastisement”).

"If ye endure chastening [divine discipline], God dealeth with [treating] you as with [His own] sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not [who is never disciplined by his father]? But if ye be without chastisement [If God doesn’t discipline you as He does all of His children], whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards [then it means you are illegitimate], and not sons [and are not really His children at all]." - Hebrews 12:7-8

We become sons and daughters of God by being born again. (John 3:3).

"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. [They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.]" - John 1:12-13

"Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." - John 3:5

We are born of water by water baptism in Jesus name. We are born of the Spirit by Spirit baptism, receiving the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:38, Acts 2:4).

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38

As sons of God, we shine as lights in the world.

"Do all things without murmurings and disputings: that ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;" - Philippians 2:14-15 [Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.]

Putting Off the “Old Man” and his Deeds

Our “old man” is our old sinful nature.

We have put to death the “old man” with his sinful deeds and buried him when we repented of our sins and were buried with Jesus in water baptism in Jesus name. (Colossians 3:5-8, Acts 2:38). We put on the “new man” when we are filled with the Spirit of Jesus, the Holy Ghost. With our old man buried and our new man Jesus within, we have a new life.

Romans 6:4 - Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Romans 6:6-7 - Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.

Ephesians 4:22-24 - That ye put off concerning the former conversation [conduct] the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Our “new man,” holy and righteous, is the Holy Ghost, God’s Spirit in us.

We must not grieve the holy Spirit of God. We must keep the “old man” of sin dead and buried, standing against worldly temptations of sin. We must keep the “new man” put on, praying and being renewed daily in the Holy Ghost, reading the word, and hearing the preached word, so we may live our life with God’s righteousness and true holiness. (Ephesians 4:25-32).

Don’t be tricked to think what the world has to offer you is better than what God has for you. The things of the world may be enticing, but the pleasures of sin are only pleasures for a short time, and all of them have a price you have to pay. The biggest price is choosing these things instead of God, and losing out on heaven. It is a choice we all have to make. Make a good choice!

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever." - 1 John 2:15-17

Jesus said, "If ye love me, keep my commandments." - John 14:15

When we repent of our sins - turning our back on the world (sin) to live for God, we are baptized in Jesus name for the forgiveness of sins, and are filled with His Spirit, we become born of God. By our new birth, living for God with our WHOLE heart, we have the power to overcome the world. (Acts 2:38, John 3:5, Acts 1:8, Galatians 5:19-21).

"For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith." - 1 John 5:4

"Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world." - 1 John 4:4

"Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;" - Hebrews 12:14-15

"Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: and be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you." - Ephesians 4:31-32

Some people say, “I’m pretty sure I’ve been baptized in Jesus name…”

If there is any uncertainty as to whether or not the name of Jesus was called over you in water baptism by immersion, this is a reason to get re-baptized in Jesus name.

It is by baptism in Jesus name that our sins are remitted. If we were not baptized in Jesus name, our sins have not been remitted– we have not applied the blood of Jesus to our life.

Some say, “The pastor that baptized me did everything in Jesus name. I’m sure he baptized in Jesus name as well”. This is not necessarily true. I once asked a pastor if he baptized in Jesus name. He said, “We do everything in the name of Jesus.” I asked again, “Do you baptize in Jesus name?” His answer, “We do everything in the name of Jesus EXCEPT baptize in the name of Jesus.”

Find a pastor that believes, preaches, and obeys Acts 2:38, and you will find a pastor that baptizes in Jesus name.

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38

Don’t risk your salvation to uncertainty. It is Biblical to be re-baptized in the name of Jesus if you know you weren’t baptized in Jesus name. (Such as being baptized in TITLES - “Father, Son, and Holy Ghost” instead of the NAME – “JESUS”) If you are not certain how you were baptized, be SURE of this most important decision in your life!! Be RE-BAPTIZED in JESUS name!!

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." - Acts 4:12

"And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied." - Acts 19:3-6

The natural is a shadow of the spiritual. The spiritual is the true reality.

“Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.” – Colossians 2:17 KJV

Baptized by water and the Spirit – John 3:5, Acts 2:38

"Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." - John 3:5 KJV

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38 KJV

Tuesday, April 14, 2020

Here are the verses:

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38 KJV

"And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord." - Acts 22:16 KJV

"Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;" - Colossians 2:12-13 KJV

"The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:" - 1 Peter 3:21 KJV

" Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin." - Romans 6:3-6 KJV

"For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ." - Galatians 3:26-27 KJV

"For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit." - 1 Corinthians 12:13 KJV

"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." - John 3:3-5 KJV

"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." - John 8:12 KJV

We follow Jesus by obeying the gospel. We repent of our sins, we are baptized in the name of Jesus for the remission of our sins, and we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:38).

"But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." - 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 KJV

"For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." - 2 Corinthians 4:6 KJV

"While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. " - John 12:36 KJV

Jesus sent Paul to be a minister and a witness to the Gentiles of the gospel, "To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me." - Acts 26:18 KJV

By obeying the gospel – Acts 2:38 – we have come into His marvelous light.

"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy." - 1 Peter 2:9-10

"For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: ... And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them." - Ephesians 5:8, 11 KJV

"Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:" - Colossians 1:12 KJV

Mark 16:1-7

"And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

“And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great. And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.

“And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.

“But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you." - Mark 16:1-7 KJV

On the First Day of the week, Yom Rishon (יוֹם רִאשׁוֹן), which we call Sunday, Jesus was risen. The name of the day means “first” and it is the first day of God’s creation of the world.

"And God said, Let there be light: and there was light." - Genesis 1:3 KJV

"And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day." - Genesis 1:5 KJV

"For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." - 2 Corinthians 4:6 KJV

When we repent, we turn from self-will, to God’s will – “Thy will be done.” This is the first and biggest step in our living for God.

Jesus was our supreme example. As God, He knew what was ahead when He was praying in the garden. It was probably the greatest temptation a human would face, the suffering that Jesus knew was about to take place. As God, He could call on twelve legions of angels. But what was ahead was the whole reason He was born. Our Heavenly Father robed Himself in flesh to suffer and die in our place for our sins. There was no man that was without sin to pay the price. Only our Holy Heavenly Father could pay our debt of sin.

When we are full of the Holy Ghost, in times of temptation, we have the battle with our flesh to do God’s will. Christ – fully man and fully God - had the same battle. The victory is through prayer, and laying down our will – the will of our flesh - and choosing God’s will – “Thy will be done.” Just as Christ surrendered the will of his flesh, we must surrender the will of our flesh.

"Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour." - John 12:27

"And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done." - Luke 22:41-42

"And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground." - Luke 22:44

"And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow, and said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation." - Luke 22:45-46

"Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?" - Matthew 26:53-54

"And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth." - Luke 11:2

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." - Matthew 7:21

"And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever." - 1 John 2:17

"Choose you this day whom ye will serve…but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." - Joshua 24:15

It is not enough to simply believe that Jesus died for our sins. We must apply His blood by baptism in His name “JESUS.” (Acts 2:38)

The Bible says that Christ is our Passover.

"For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:" - 1 Corinthians 5:7 KJV

The blood of the Passover lamb had to be applied to each house in order to save the occupants.

"And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it." - Exodus 12:7 KJV

"For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD." - Exodus 12:12 KJV

"And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt." - Exodus 12:13 KJV

It was not enough that the Passover lamb died to save the children of Israel from death and judgment. The blood of the lamb had to be applied to their homes.

It was not enough that Christ our Passover died to save us from death and judgment. The blood of the Lamb has to be applied to our life by baptism in Jesus name.

"For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins." - Matthew 26:28 KJV

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38 KJV

The Bible speaks of Christ being our Passover.

"Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:" - 1 Corinthians 5:7 KJV

Tonight April 8th at sunset, begins the first night of Passover.

Pesach (Passover) is April 8 to April 16, 2020

The eight-day festival of Passover celebrates the emancipation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt. It is observed by avoiding leaven and highlighted by the Seder meals that include eating matza and bitter herbs, and retelling the story of the Exodus. (Chabad.org).

The story of the Exodus can be found in Exodus chapters 11 through 14.

"Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: and ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening." - Exodus 12:5-6 KJV

Jesus is our Passover.

"Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:" - 1 Peter 1:18-19 KJV

Who is the son of God?
The Son of God is our Heavenly Father wrapped in a body of flesh and blood so that He could shed His very own blood to redeem mankind back to Himself. His name is JESUS!

Sunday, April 5, 2020

The Bible gives us hope and the recipe for success.

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you." - James 4:7-8 KJV

And then for the rest of the story… the next verses we like to leave out, but still are there…

"Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. [“purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.”]  Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. [“Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy.”]" - James 4:8-9 KJV

But, if we do what His Word says, we find ourselves in God’s favor.

"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. [“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.”]" - James 4:10 KJV

Acts 2:38, Acts 2:4

Prayer reaches to others where we cannot go, accomplishing what we cannot do, because it is Jesus that does the work. At the same time, prayer draws us closer to Him.

"Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;" - Ephesians 6:18 KJV [Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere] (Acts 2:4).

Repentance is U-turning from sinful ways to Gods way.

"Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;" - Acts 3:19 KJV

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38 KJV
