Putting Off the “Old Man” and his Deeds

Our “old man” is our old sinful nature.

We have put to death the “old man” with his sinful deeds and buried him when we repented of our sins and were buried with Jesus in water baptism in Jesus name. (Colossians 3:5-8, Acts 2:38). We put on the “new man” when we are filled with the Spirit of Jesus, the Holy Ghost. With our old man buried and our new man Jesus within, we have a new life.

Romans 6:4 - Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Romans 6:6-7 - Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin.

Ephesians 4:22-24 - That ye put off concerning the former conversation [conduct] the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Our “new man,” holy and righteous, is the Holy Ghost, God’s Spirit in us.

We must not grieve the holy Spirit of God. We must keep the “old man” of sin dead and buried, standing against worldly temptations of sin. We must keep the “new man” put on, praying and being renewed daily in the Holy Ghost, reading the word, and hearing the preached word, so we may live our life with God’s righteousness and true holiness. (Ephesians 4:25-32).
