The Great Commission in the Book of John
After Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, before He
ascended to heaven, Jesus gave a commission to His disciples. Jesus told them
to go, sending them into all the world to teach and preach the gospel, and to baptize
in His name for the remission of sins. He also promised the peace of His presence
would be with them always, for He would fill them with His Spirit, the Holy
Ghost.
The Great Commission is found in the books of Matthew, as
well as Mark and Luke. (Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15-18, Luke 24:46-49).
Where is the Great Commission found in the book of John?
"Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as
my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, he
breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: whose soever
sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain,
they are retained." - John 20:21-23
