If you weren’t baptized with the name “JESUS” called upon you, you need to be re-baptized. The trinitarian formula repeating God’s titles, “Father Son and Holy Ghost” will not save you. It is JESUS name baptism only that will save you.

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." - Acts 4:12 KJV

"And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, he said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.

“Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

[NOTICE: TO CORRECT THEIR BAPTISM, THEY WERE RE-BAPTIZED IN JESUS NAME!]

“And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied." - Acts 19:1-6 KJV

Jesus name baptism was preached the day the Church began.

"Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

[“BE BAPTIZED EVERY ONE OF YOU IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS“]

“For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." - Acts 2:37-39 KJV

The Bible says we are not to continue in our former sins, but to be holy “in all manner of conversation.”

We have repented of our sins, we have made a covenant with Jesus having our sins washed away when we were baptized in JESUS NAME (not titles - Father Son and Holy Ghost), and we have been filled with His HOLY Ghost (Spirit).

The word here for conversation includes conduct. All manner of conduct pretty much covers everything we do, say, see, and hear. The verse written before this includes our mind. Thus, every part of our being is to be holy, as God is holy.

"Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy." - 1 Peter 1:13-16 KJV

What do we look at? What do we listen to? What do we say? What do we think? What do we do?

We are to be prepared and disciplined expecting the soon coming of the Lord, not looking back to the world, but obedient, not conforming ourselves to the world as we did before in our ignorance, but now because God that has called and chosen us is holy, we also must be holy in everything that we do. For God says in his Word, You shall be holy, because I am holy.

Applying the Blood of the Lamb of God by Baptism in JESUS Name

The night the Children of Israel were delivered from Egyptian bondage, the Lord passed over all the Hebrew homes which had the blood of the lamb on their door posts. Death came to all the firstborn males in Egypt that did not have the blood covering upon their house. If we want to be saved, we must also APPLY THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB OF GOD by being baptized in the NAME OF JESUS!

Exodus 12:12 KJV - For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.

Exodus 12:13 KJV - And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

Just as a lamb was killed to save the firstborn males in the Hebrew homes, Jesus the Lamb of God was killed to save all those that apply His blood to their “house” (their body). We apply His blood by baptism in Jesus name. Jesus is the Lamb of God.

John 1:29 KJV - The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Jesus is our passover Lamb. Jesus was crucified at the same hour the passover lamb was killed at the Temple in Jerusalem.

1 Corinthians 5:7 KJV - Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:

We “purge out the old leaven” when we repent of our sins. We apply His blood - the blood of the Lamb of God - when we are baptized in “JESUS” name. His blood is not applied by repeating titles, “Father, Son, and Holy Ghost” - it takes the NAME of JESUS to remit our sins!!

Acts 2:38 KJV - Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 4:12 KJV - Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

As the Bride of Christ, baptized in His name Jesus and filled with His Spirit, we have heard His voice and have answered. We are called, chosen, and faithful. We hear His voice by the Word of God, by the preaching of His Word, and by the sound of His voice within us.

"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me." - Revelation 3:20 KJV

"These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful." - Revelation 17:14 KJV

Why should I go to church? Part 1

I should go to church to hear the gospel. (1Corinthians 15:1-4)

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be SAVED. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they HEAR without a PREACHER? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the GOSPEL of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

“BUT they have not all OBEYED THE GOSPEL. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?" - Romans 10:13-16 KJV

I should go to church to obey the gospel.

Peter preached the gospel of Jesus on the Day of Pentecost. When asked, “What shall we do?” he replied how to OBEY THE GOSPEL.

"Then Peter said unto them, REPENT, and BE BAPTIZED every one of you in the NAME of JESUS Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall RECEIVE the gift of the HOLY GHOST.

“For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. And with MANY OTHER WORDS did he TESTIFY and EXHORT, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

“Then they that gladly received his word were BAPTIZED: and the same day there were ADDED UNTO THEM about three thousand souls." - Acts 2:38-41 KJV [caps my emphasis]

Influences and Choices - Choosing Jesus

It is human nature to be effected by people, places, and things around us. Our choices of who our friends are, places we go, what we look at, and what we listen to effects the person that we are. It effects our attitudes, our vocabulary, our values, our lifestyle.

It is no wonder that God calls us to come out from influences that effect us in a negative way, and to concentrate our time, the things we do, and the people we choose to spend time with what are positive influences.

Our decisions lead us either to Jesus, His love and righteous, and ultimately life and heaven, or to the world and its web and its rulers, ultimately leading to darkness and death.

The devil is a liar, deceiver, murderer from the beginning, and the god of this world with its systems. We can choose to be programmed by the world or by God. We make this choice by what we read, watch, and listen to.

"Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." - 2 Corinthians 6:17-18 KJV

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him." - 1 John 2:15 KJV

"But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." - 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 KJV

How can we escape? Jesus offers a fresh start to anyone that will turn from the world and choose to live for God. We have this new start when we are born again of water and of His Spirit by baptism in Jesus name for the remission of our sins, and receive the gift of His Spirit, His Holy Ghost. (John 3:5, Acts 2:38)

It is called a new birth because it is a fresh start with a brand new life. Jesus gives us power to live for Him giving His Spirit to lead and guide us. He is with us and in us and will never leave nor forsake us, with our destiny heaven. (Acts 1:8, Luke 24:49, John 14:17, Hebrews 13:5)

Baptizing in JESUS NAME

The apostles, as well as all the rest of the early church, obeyed the command of Jesus in Matthew 28:19 when they called the name of “JESUS” upon the person they were baptizing.

The command in Matthew 28:19 is to baptize in the NAME of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:" - Matthew 28:19. This NAME is “JESUS.”

On the Day of Pentecost, the church began with the pouring out of God’s Spirit (Joel 2:28, Acts 2:16-17). Apostle Peter, standing up with the other eleven apostles, gave the answer to the question of the multitude when they said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? (Acts 2:37)

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38

"Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls." - Acts 2:41

Philip the evangelist also baptized in JESUS name.

"But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women." - Acts 8:12

The apostles approved of Philip’s baptizing in the name of Jesus, for they sent Apostles Peter and John to help Philip with the revival he was preaching in Samaria.

"Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (for as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost." - Acts 8:14-17

Apostle Peter preached the gospel to the first Gentile converts.

"While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God… " - Acts 10:44-46

Apostle Peter baptized the Gentiles in the same saving NAME as the Jews and Samaritans were baptized in, “JESUS” name.

"…Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord." - Acts 10:46-48

Apostle Paul likewise baptized in Jesus name. When he came to Ephesus, he found disciples of John, preached to them Jesus, and re-baptized them in the name of “JESUS.”

"And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus." - Acts 19:3-5

It is by the NAME “JESUS” that sins are remitted and by which we are saved.

Those today that obey the command of Jesus in Matthew 28:19, just as the apostles and all the early church did, call the name of “JESUS” upon the person they are baptizing!

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." - Acts 4:12

"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood." - Acts 20:28 KJV

"To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation." - 2 Corinthians 5:19 KJV

"Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:" - 1 Peter 1:18-19 KJV

"For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." - 1 Corinthians 6:20 KJV

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." - Romans 12:2 KJV

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

“And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation." - Acts 2:38-40 KJV

Old Habits and Victorious Living

We have quit some of our old habits that were not pleasing to God.

We are feeling good, feeling victory over conquering those things that were bringing us down.

There are also habits of places we “hang out” at. Usually, these places are centered around the old habits we quit. People go to these places to enjoy these habits. They want to be around people that are also enjoying these habits.

But they’re not going to enjoy being around us, and we’re not going to enjoy being around them. The place we’re going back to is a place of the bad habits we’ve quit.

No matter how great we feel about the victories we’ve won, the pressure is on to make us return to our “old self” again.

To be a success and to keep the victories we’ve won, we need to move on and find some new places to go to that are “bad habit free.”

We want to stay on God’s path. We don’t want our feet taking us to places where we can fall back into the bad habits we’ve conquered.

Proverbs 4:27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

Romans 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Our Body the Temple of Jesus

"Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? But he spake of the temple of his body." - John 2:19-21

The body of Jesus is His temple. His body is filled with His Holy Spirit. His body Has His name of salvation placed upon it - “Jesus.”

When Jesus suffered and died on the cross, He paid the price for our sins. His temple - which is His body - was destroyed. On the third day, Jesus rose from the dead. Jesus raised it up.

We claim the price Jesus paid for our sins when we get baptized by immersion in the name of Jesus. When we are baptized in Jesus name, His name is placed upon the temple of our body. When we are filled with His Holy Ghost, our body completely becomes the temple of God.

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38

"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are." - 1 Corinthians 3:16-17

"Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid. What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh." - 1 Corinthians 6:15-16

"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols?

“For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." - 2 Corinthians 6:14-18

Preaching Saving Them That Believe

God used prophets to speak to His people in the Old Testament. God uses prophets and preachers to speak to His people today.

"There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores...

"And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; and in hell he lift ...up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

"And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. ... Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: for I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

"Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

"And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.

"And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead." - Luke 16:19-20, 22-24, 27-31

"And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:" - Ephesians 4:11-12

"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. ... For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe." - 1 Corinthians 1:18, 21

Old things are passed away – Part 2

We have repented, been baptized in Jesus name for the remission of our sins, and have received the gift of the Holy Ghost (Acts 2:38)

One of the deeds of our old sinful nature is unforgiveness. We need to let unforgiveness pass away.

2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV - Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

God has not only forgiven us of our sins, He has forgotten them.

Hebrews 10:16-17 KJV - This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

All the sins we did have passed away. We have a fresh start, walking in newness of life.

Jesus has forgiven and forgot - we need to do the same. We need to let those old things pass away.

When we feel we cannot forgive, Jesus supplies the forgiveness we need for others by His Spirit, the Holy Ghost within us.

Colossians 3:12-13 KJV - Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

Old things are passed away – Part 1

We have repented of our sins, been baptized in Jesus name for the remission of our sins, and have received the gift of the Holy Ghost with the sign of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit of God gave us the utterance. (Acts 2:38, Acts 2:4)

2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV - Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Our old nature became dead, and all the sins that we repented of were buried when we were baptized in Jesus name. When we received the gift of the Holy Ghost, we were resurrected to live a new life in Christ.

Romans 6:3-4 KJV - Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Our old nature, the “old man” has passed away. God has wiped the slate clean of our past sins. He has forgotten them.

Psalms 103:12 KJV - As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

Isaiah 43:25 KJV - I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.

Romans 8:1 KJV - There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Our old nature, the “old man” with his sinful deeds has passed away. We must walk daily in the “new man”, the new nature that Jesus has given us when he filled us with his Spirit.

Colossians 3:9-10 KJV - Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him [be renewed as you learn to know Jesus and become like him]:

Ephesians 4:22-23 KJV - That ye put off concerning the former conversation [former behavior] the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind [let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes];

Ephesians 4:24 KJV - And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Spiritual Circumcision

When we repent of our sins and are baptized in Jesus name for the remission of sins, our sinful nature - the lusts of the flesh - is cut off.

Romans 2:28-29 KJV - For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: but he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter [the Law]; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Acts 2:38 KJV - Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Galatians 5:24 KJV - And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

Our baptism in Jesus name is a blood covenant. The blood that Jesus shed for the remission of our sins (the cutting off of our sins) is applied to our life. (Rev. 1:5)

Matthew 26:28 KJV - For this is my blood of the new testament [new covenant], which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Circumcision is to be administered when an infant is eight days old.

Peter compares our water baptism with the eight souls on Noah’s ark. He says just as those eight souls were saved by water, we too are saved by water by baptism in Jesus name.

1 Peter 3:20-21 KJV - Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:

It is said the number seven symbolizes perfection – perfection that is achievable via natural means – while eight symbolizes that which is beyond nature, above and beyond this world (in the spiritual realm). Peter tying the number eight to baptism reminds us that baptism in Jesus name is above and beyond this world, in the spiritual realm.

Our Spirit and water baptism in Jesus name is compared to circumcision.

Colossians 2:11-12 KJV - In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

All the features of the covenant of circumcision correlate with our covenant of water baptism in Jesus name.

In circumcision, the flesh is cut off. (Gen.17:11)

Circumcision has the legal requirement that at least one drop of blood is to be shed in the procedure. It is considered a blood covenant. (Gen.17:11)

If circumcision is not administered, his soul is considered cut off from the Jewish people.

Genesis 17:14 KJV - And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant.

If we are not baptized in Jesus name, we are cut off from the people of God.

Mark 16:16 KJV - He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

At circumcision, the child is given his name. (Luke 2:21)

When God first commanded circumcision to Abram, God changed his name to Abraham.

The Hebrew letter that God added to Abram’s name is the same letter that occurs twice in God’s holy name Yahweh. This name is called the tetragamaton because it is the four Hebrew letters – “yud”, “hey”, “vav”, “hey”. It is the letter “hey” that was added to Abram to make it Abraham.

God shared his name with Abraham at circumcision, just as he shares his name Jesus with us at baptism in Jesus name.

Acts 2:38 KJV - Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 15:17 KJV - That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things.

James 2:7 KJV - Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called?

The Hebrew form of the name Jesus - YÄ•howshuwa`, is translated as "Joshua" (Exodus 17:9). It shares three letters from the tetragrammaton - the "yud", the "hey", and the "vav."

The root of the name "Joshua" (Greek - "Jesus") is from both the tetragrammaton "Yahweh" and the word "to save, deliver." (https://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm…) Jesus is interchanged for the name "Joshua" in Acts 7:45 and Hebrews 4:8.

When God commanded Abraham to be circumcised, Abraham got circumcised the selfsame day. This is mentioned twice. This shows the importance to not delay obeying God’s command of such an important covenant.

Genesis 17:23 KJV - And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all that were born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house; and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the selfsame day, as God had said unto him.

Genesis 17:26 KJV - In the selfsame day was Abraham circumcised, and Ishmael his son.

The disciples likewise did not delay in water baptizing in Jesus name. When those that heard the gospel received it, they were baptized the selfsame day. (Acts 8:36-38, Acts 9:17-18, Acts 10:47-48)

Acts 2:41 KJV - Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

Acts 16:33 KJV - And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.

Acts 19:5 KJV - When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Acts 22:16 KJV - And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Pentecost and the Gentiles

Before Jesus ascended into heaven, he gave commandment to his disciples to tarry in the city of Jerusalem until they be endued with power from on high.

Jesus spoke to them of the gospel, saying that repentance and remission of sins would be for all nations, which means the Gentiles, but would begin in Jerusalem with the Jews. (Luke 24:44-49)

He said they would receive power, after that the Holy Ghost came upon them: and they would be witnesses unto him both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (Acts 1:8)

Here again, Jesus came to save the whole world, not just the Jews. However, the Holy Ghost would be poured out first on the Jews in Jerusalem, and the gospel with repentance and remission of sins in Jesus name would first be preached to the Jews.

Peter didn’t realize it at the time, but on the day of Pentecost, Peter preached that the promise of the Holy Ghost is also for the Gentiles. When he said the promise of the Holy Ghost is for all “that are afar off”, he was speaking of the Gentiles. (Acts 2:39, Ephesians 2:13-22)

For Peter, it took a vision and the voice of God, an angelic visitation to the Gentile Cornelius, messengers, witnesses, and a powerful outpouring of the Holy Ghost, to make Peter realize that God’s gift of the Holy Ghost is for the Gentiles also. (Acts 10)

When Peter and the six Jewish brethren that came with him talked with Cornelius, they went in his house and found many that were come together to hear Peter’s message. (Acts 10:27, Acts 11:12)

“Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.” (Act 10:33)

Acts 10:28 KJV - And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

God had showed Peter that he is no respecter of persons and to go and preach to the Gentiles. (Acts 10:34, Acts 10:19-20)

Peter then preached the gospel of Jesus to Cornelius and all his family and friends that were gathered in his house.

Acts 10:39-40, 43 KJV - And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly…To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

Acts 10:44-46 KJV - While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

Acts 10:47-48 KJV - Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

It was when Peter and the six Jewish brethren that came with him heard the Gentiles speak in tongues as the Spirit gave the utterance that they knew for sure that the Gentiles also received the Holy Ghost.

Peter later testified to the other apostles in Jerusalem what had happened.

Acts 11:15 KJV - And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.

Acts 11:17 KJV - Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

Acts 11:18 KJV - When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

The Gospel message preached by Peter on the day of Pentecost is for Jews and Gentiles alike!

Acts 2:38 KJV - Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 2:39 KJV - For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

The Milk and Meat of Pentecost

There are three times that the commandment, “Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk” is mentioned in the Bible. (Exodus 23:19, Exodus 34:26, Deut. 14:21).

The Jews practice this commandment by not eating dairy products and meat products in the same meal.

On the day of Pentecost, it is a custom to first eat a dairy meal, then after a short interruption, to eat a meat meal.

What does the Bible say about milk and meat, and what do these have to do with the day of Pentecost?

1 Corinthians 3:1-3 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?

1 Peter 2:1-3 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, as newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: if so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

It appears in these verses that milk is for those that have not gotten control of their carnal nature and are needing to spend their time on repentance rather than on the work of God. The Lord is gracious and patient as with a baby with its needs of dirty diapers, bottles, whining and crying.

Hebrews 5:12-14 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

It appears in these verses that meat is for those that have matured in Christ, and are in a position to care for and teach “babes in Christ”.

It appears that milk represents obeying the gospel, while it appears meat represents preaching and teaching the gospel.

Jesus’ use of the word “meat” when speaking to his disciples sheds light on this meaning. (John 4:4-42)

Jesus had ministered to the Samaritan woman at the well. He spoke to her of the gift of the Holy Ghost, which is the Spirit of God within that brings everlasting life. He told her that true worshippers shall worship the Father in Spirit and in truth. He revealed to her that he is Messiah.

Jesus’ then spoke to his disciples.

John 4:34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

John 4:35-36 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

On the day of Pentecost, those in the upper room that first received the Holy Ghost had already been baptized in Jesus name. (John 3:22, 26, John 4:1-2)  When God poured out his Spirit on them and they were speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance, it appears they went out into the streets. (Acts 2:4, 6) The multitudes that were gathered for the holy day of Pentecost heard the disciples speaking in their own language the wonderful works of God. (Acts 2:11) The disciples were now born of the water and Spirit. They had obeyed the gospel.

We could say the first part of the morning was like a milk meal.

After the multitudes witnessed the Spirit filled behavior of the disciples, they asked the question, “What meaneth this?”  Others mocking said, “These men are full of new wine.” (Acts 2:12, 13)

First came the obedience to the gospel, then came the preaching of the gospel. It could be said the second part of the morning on the day of Pentecost was like a meat meal.

After Peter explained the fulfillment of prophecies that had just taken place, he preached the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, which is the gospel.

After the multitudes heard the preaching of Peter, they asked the question, “Men and brethren what shall we do?”

Then Peter preached how to obey the gospel.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Just as Jesus said, “I have meat to eat that ye know not of” when he preached the gospel to the woman at the well, so Peter had meat to eat on the day of Pentecost when he preached the gospel to the multitudes. (John 4:32)

Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

The Blood Covenants of Pentecost

The Day of Pentecost is the day in which the Holy Ghost was poured out on the followers of Jesus that were praying in an upper room in Jerusalem. This was the fulfillment of the promised New Covenant. (Jeremiah 31:31-34)

The Day of Pentecost is also the Jewish holy day celebrating the giving of God’s Law at Mount Sinai.

Each covenant was confirmed with blood.

Moses said it was the blood that confirmed the covenant the LORD made with the people giving them His law. (Exodus 24:8)

Jesus said His blood was the blood of the new covenant (testament). (Matthew 26:28)

Jesus also said, “This is my blood of the new testament (covenant), which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” (Matthew 26:28)

Jesus’ blood of the new covenant fulfills the prophecy of Jeremiah. The LORD said that in the new covenant, “I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.” (Jeremiah 31:31, 34)

How did Moses confirm the covenant of the law with blood?

Exodus 24:5-8 KJV - And he sent young men of the children of Israel, which offered burnt offerings, and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen unto the LORD. And Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basons; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient. And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant [this blood confirms the covenant], which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words.

Hebrews 9:18-20 KJV - Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood. For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people, saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.

How did Jesus confirm the new covenant with blood?

Matthew 26:28 KJV - For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Jesus was the sacrifice. He is the Lamb of God. Though our sins are scarlet, He washes them white as snow by His blood. When He was at the point of death, He was offered vinegar on hyssop. When the soldier pierced His side, blood and water came out.

John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

The blood Jesus shed comes upon us when we are water baptized in Jesus name for the remission of sins.

Revelation 1:5 KJV - And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood

Peter preached the new covenant on the day of Pentecost.

Acts 2:38 KJV - Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Those that entered into the new covenant confirmed it with the blood of Jesus.

Acts 2:41 KJV - Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

The Two Marriage Covenants of Shavuot (“Pentecost“)

On the first Pentecost, the Jewish people made a covenant with God at Mount Sinai. On that day, they agreed to keep all of God’s commandments. In the Old Testament, this day is called the Feast of Weeks. The Jews call it “Shavuot.”

The Jews remember the day of Pentecost as the day they made a marriage covenant with God. Just as a bride says to her husband, “I do”, the Jewish people said to God, “We do”.

"And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD hath said will we do." - Exodus 24:3

God also recognizes the day of Pentecost as the day He made a marriage covenant with the Jewish people. In Jeremiah 31:31-34, God refers to Himself as their husband. He also tells them He is going to make a new covenant with them.

"Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:" - Jeremiah 31:31-32

God told them of a new and better covenant, a marriage covenant of mercy. God said, “I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

In this new covenant there would be a closer relationship between God and His people. Because He was forgiving their iniquity, they could receive the infilling of His Spirit. This is how we can know Him.

"But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; after those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more." - Jeremiah 31:33-34

There is one problem, however. How could the Jewish people be released from their marriage covenant of the Law that they entered into at Sinai?

Paul reveals the answer to this question in Romans 7:1-6.

"Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband." - Romans 7:1-2  [the law applies only while a person is living. If the husband is dead, the laws of marriage no longer apply to the woman.]

"So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man." - Romans 7:3 [But if her husband dies, she is free from that law and does not commit adultery when she remarries.]

The only way that the Jewish people could be released from their marriage covenant of the Law with God, was for God to die. God is Spirit, and CANNOT die, for He is eternal. Therefore, to accomplish His will and to fulfill the requirements of His law, God robed Himself in flesh and blood. God fills the universe, and at the same time was within His temple of a body of flesh prepared to shed His blood and hang on a cross fashioned from a tree.

By the death of God’s flesh, the Jewish people were set free from their Sinai marriage covenant with God, the covenant of the Law.

On the third day, the Spirit of God raised His flesh from the grave. After appearing before many eye witnesses, God’s resurrected flesh ascended in power to His throne as Messiah of the seed of David, to reign in mercy and justice.

The Jew releases God from covenant when he dies with Christ the Messiah by repentance and baptism in Jesus name.

"Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God." - Romans 7:4 [The Jew becomes dead to the law and his first marriage covenant with God by repentance and burial with Christ in baptism. He then becomes the Bride of Christ who is risen from the dead, bringing fruit unto God by good works through His Spirit.]

"For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death." - Romans 7:5 [controlled by our old nature, sinful desires aroused by the law were at work within us, producing fruit of sinful deeds resulting in death.]

"But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter." - Romans 7:6 [released from the law, for we died to it, no longer captive to its power, we serve the new way of living in the Spirit, not in the old way of obeying the letter of the Law]

"Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." - Romans 6:3-4 [The glory of His Spirit]

On the day of Pentecost, Peter gave the message of the New Covenant that set the Jews free from the Law to become the Bride of Christ. (John 3:29, 2Corinthians 11:2)

In the New Covenant, we promise to God we will keep His new covenant commandments.
"If ye love me, keep my commandments." - John 14:15

We obey Jesus’ gospel by repentance, baptism in Jesus name for the remission of sins, and receiving the gift of His Holy Ghost. We apply the blood Jesus shed by baptism in Jesus name. It is by the name of Jesus and His blood at baptism that we enter into a covenant with Him.

"For this is my blood of the new testament [covenant], which is shed for many for the remission of sins." - Matthew 26:28

When we enter this New Covenant with Him, we become the bride of Christ and He becomes our husband.

John the Baptist spoke of Jesus as the bridegroom. John the Baptist considered himself as the friend of the bridegroom.

"He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled." - John 3:29

Paul spoke as Jesus being the husband and having given the church in Corinth to Him as a pure bride.

"For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ." - 2 Corinthians 11:2

On the day of Pentecost, Peter preached the New Covenant message:

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." - Acts 2:38-39

That day, the Day of Pentecost, there were added into the New Covenant and the Bride of Christ about three thousand Jewish souls.

"Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls." - Acts 2:41

What is Pentecost? The Sound of the Wind and the Spirit.

Jesus commanded the apostles that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, the baptism of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 1:4-5) The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of Jesus in us. (John 14:17-18)

"If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you." - John 14:15-18

"And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place." - Acts 2:1

Jesus had told Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews, that except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (John 3:5) Jesus compared being born of the Spirit to the wind.

"The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit." - John 3:8

On the day of Pentecost, there was a sound of wind - a rushing mighty wind.

"And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting." - Acts 2:2

Just as Jesus said, when those in the upper room were born of the Spirit, there was a sound as a wind.

The Bible says the sound came from heaven.  This sound from heaven was the sound of other tongues (other languages) as the Spirit gave them utterance.

"The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit." - John 3:8

No one could see where the Spirit of Jesus came from, and where it went as it filled each of the disciples, but they heard the sound!

"And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." - Acts 2:4

What is Pentecost? The New Covenant and Shavuot

There is a reason God chose the Day of Pentecost to begin pouring out His Spirit.  Pentecost is the celebration of the day that God gave His Law to the Jewish people at Mount Sinai, written on tables of stone. It was on the Day of Pentecost in Jerusalem that God poured out His Spirit, writing His law on their hearts.

At Sinai, the Jewish people promised to God they would keep all of His laws and commandments. (There are 613 commandments.)

"And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient." - Exodus 24:7

However, the Jewish people were not able to keep their promise to do all the laws because of the weakness of the sinful human nature. God saw that it would only be by the gospel that we could walk in righteousness, no longer following our sinful nature but instead walking in His Spirit. (Romans 8:3-4, Romans14:17, Galatians 5:16-18, 24-25, 2Corinthians 5:21, Ephesians 4:24)

Instead of the law written on stone, God writes His law in our hearts. He is our God and we are His people. This was prophesied by Jeremiah.

"Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: but this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; after those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more." - Jeremiah 31:31-34

God promised His people a New Covenant. This covenant would be written on their hearts. God writes His law on hearts by the baptism of the Holy Ghost. He would forgive them their sins. God forgives sins by water baptism in His name Jesus. We find this New Covenant to be the Gospel.

By Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, God paid the price of our iniquities. When we repented, and were baptized in Jesus name for the remission of sins, God washed our sins away by the blood He shed. (Revelation 1:5) Receiving the gift of His Holy Ghost enables us to walk in His Spirit and not give in to our old sinful nature. (Acts 1:8, Galatians 5:16, Romans 8:1-11)

Why did they speak in tongues on the day of Pentecost? (Shavuot)

On the day of Pentecost, there were Jews from every nation under heaven in Jerusalem. As commanded by God, they were there for the Feast of Weeks (Shavuot). They were there to appear before the Lord and give an offering at the Temple. (Deuteronomy16:10, 16)

These Jews all became witnesses of the amazing fulfillment of the prophecy of the prophet Joel: God had begun to pour out of His Spirit on all flesh! (Acts 2:16-17)

The Jews marveled when they heard the hundred and twenty disciples speaking in the tongue of the countries they were born. These Galilaeans didn’t understand the words they were uttering, but the Jews that were present from around the world did. The disciples were speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. The Jews heard them speaking in their languages the wonderful works of God! (Acts 2:4-11)

God spoke through them as they allowed God to change their words into another language. (Acts 2:8)
This was the beginning of tongues as the sign of receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:4, Acts 10:45-46, Acts 11:15, Acts 19:6) God’s promise had begun to be fulfilled. (Acts 1:4, Acts 2:33, Acts 2:39)

In what language was the gospel preached on the day of Pentecost?

The Jews that were gathered in Jerusalem that day not only knew their native language from the country they were from, but as Jews, they also knew the Hebrew language. They most likely knew Greek as well, as it appears to have been the universal language at that time. Because all those that were gathered were devout Jews, it is most likely Peter was preaching in the Hebrew language. (Acts 2:5)

The gospel message on the day of Pentecost was preached by Peter, not by the hundred and twenty speaking in tongues. The Bible clearly records the preaching that day, and it was by Peter. (Acts 2:14-40)

"But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:" - Acts 2:14

The conclusion of his gospel message: what we must do to obey the gospel.

"Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?" - Acts 2:37

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38

"For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." - Acts 2:39

What happened on the Day of Pentecost almost 2000 years ago?

Pentecost is the day, almost 2000 years ago, that God began pouring out His Spirit.

God loves us so much that He took on the form of man to pay the price of death for our sins. Because of our love for Him, we repented and were baptized in His name Jesus, washing our sins away by the blood He shed for us. It is because God paid the price for our sins that He was able to begin pouring out His Spirit upon us.

"And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." - Acts 2:1-4

This was prophesied by the prophet Joel in Joel 2:28.

"But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:" - Acts 2:16-18

On this day of Pentecost, Peter stood up with the eleven apostles, speaking with divine inspiration, full of the Holy Ghost. He preached the gospel – the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

"Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it." - Acts 2:22-24

"Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ." - Acts 2:36

The Jews that were gathered in Jerusalem for Pentecost from around the world were convicted in their hearts when they heard Peter preach the gospel of Jesus.

"Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?" - Acts 2:37

"And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation." - Acts 2:40

"Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles." - Acts 2:41-43

"…And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved." - Acts 2:47

Pentecost "Shavuot" beginning tonight

Pentecost is our word for the Hebrew word “Shavuot.” Because we go by the Roman calendar (solar calendar), we celebrated Pentecost earlier this year. According to the Hebrew calendar (lunisolar calendar), Pentecost is this weekend.

It is celebrated by Jews as a two day holiday, this year on June 11-13. It begins at sunset Saturday June 11, and ends at nightfall Monday June 13. It comes after 49 days of “counting of the Omer” (sheaf) after Passover. This amounts to 7 weeks. (Leviticus 23:15-16) Thus, Pentecost (Shavuot) is called the “Festival of Weeks.” (Deuteronomy 16:16) The word “Pentecost” means “fiftieth day,” because it is the 50th day after Passover. "Shavuot" means "weeks."

After God brought the people of Israel out of Egypt, it took seven weeks to reach the mountain where God had spoken to Moses from the burning bush. God had told Moses he would return with the people to this same mountain, which was Mount Sinai.

The Israelites left Egypt on the first day of Passover, and on the day of Pentecost (Shavuot) they assembled at the foot of Mount Sinai (Horeb) and received from God His commandments.

"Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb. ... And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain." - Exodus 3:1, 12

It was God’s timing that He would pour out His Spirit on the day of Pentecost (Shavuot), the same day when years earlier He gave His Law on Mount Sinai. This was a fulfillment of prophecy of Jeremiah. Through His Holy Ghost, God’s Law would now be written on our hearts. Through His new covenant - baptism in Jesus name for the remission of sins - our sin and iniquity is forgiven and remembered no more.

"Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:

“But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

“And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more." - Jeremiah 31:31-34

Peter preached this message of God’s new covenant on the day of Pentecost.
