THE COVENANT NAME - JESUS

The following is from the Home Bible Study "Search for Truth #2" (Lesson 8 Chart 5):

THE COVENANT NAME - JESUS

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the NAME of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:" - Matthew 28:19 KJV [caps my emphasis]

The name of the Father is JESUS

"I am come in my Father's name..." - John 5:43 KJV

The name of the Son is JESUS

"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." - Matthew 1:21 KJV

The name of the Holy Ghost is JESUS

"The Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name..." - John 14:26 KJV

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." - Acts 4:12 KJV

Examples of water baptism in the book of Acts:

3000 believers baptized on the Day of Pentecost:

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. ... Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls." - Acts 2:38, 41 KJV

The Samaritan believers:

"But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. ... Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)" - Acts 8:12, 14-16 KJV

Cornelius, his family, and friends:

"The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)...Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord." - Acts 10:36, 47-48 KJV

Disciples of John the Baptist:

"When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus." - Acts 19:5 KJV

Taught in the Epistles:

"For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ." - Galatians 3:27 KJV

"Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin." - Romans 6:3-6 KJV

"In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead." - Colossians 2:11-12 KJV
