The Great Commission and the Book of John

After Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, and before He ascended to heaven, Jesus gave a commission to His disciples to go into all the world preaching the gospel and baptizing in His name. He also promised He would fill them with His Spirit.

This commission is found in Matthew, as well as Mark and Luke. (Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 16:15-18, Luke 24:46-49).

Where is this commission found in John?

"Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained." - John 20:21-23 KJV

Here in the book of John, Jesus is sending His disciples out into the world with the gospel. He is giving them the promise of the Holy Ghost, and He is giving them the authority to remit sins, which is accomplished by baptism in Jesus name for the remission of sins. (Acts 2:38-39)
