Christ and the Church
"I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine..." -
Song of Songs 6:3
Jesus called us and we gave our heart to Him when we turned
from the world to love Him with ALL of our heart, soul, and might.
We made a covenant with Him when we were water baptized, taking
His name “Jesus” upon us. He then gave us the gift of His Holy Ghost, filling
us with His Spirit. (Acts 2:38)
We are called, chosen, and faithful. (Revelation 17:14)
"According as he hath chosen us in him before the
foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in
love...to the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us
accepted in the beloved." - Ephesians 1:4, 6
"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved
the church, and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with
the washing of water by the word [by the gospel], that he might present it to
himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but
that it should be holy and without blemish." - Ephesians 5:25-27
"So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies.
He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own
flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: for we
are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones." - Ephesians
5:28-30
"For this cause shall a man leave his father and
mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church." -
Ephesians 5:31-32
