The Temple of God (Part Six) The Church - the Body of Christ

God desires to dwell among His people. This time, He would dwell among them in a more intimate way. God’s Spirit that had been with them in the body of Christ, would be in them.

"Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." - John 14:17 KJV

Because of God’s sacrifice of His temple of flesh, we can become a temple of God’s Spirit. (2Corinthians 5:19-21) When we repent, and are baptized in Jesus name for the remission of our sins, we can receive the gift of His Spirit in us. (Acts 2:38-39). We then become the temple of God.

"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 KJV

Just as sacrifice was of essential purpose of the tabernacle in the wilderness, the temple in Jerusalem, and Christ, sacrifice is also essential for us. While Christ sacrificed and died for our sins, we are to be a living sacrifice.

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service [for all He has done for you. This is truly the way to worship Him.]

"And be not conformed to this world [copy the behavior and customs of this world]: but be ye transformed [into a new person] by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove [learn to know] what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God [for you]." - Romans 12:1-2 KJV
