The Temple of God
When God made a covenant with His people at Mount Sinai, it
was God's desire to dwell among them. The first temple that God dwelt in was
actually a tent, just as His people were dwelling in tents as they traveled
through the desert. (Exodus 25:8, 2 Samuel 7:6, 2 Samuel 7:6).
God gave Moses explicit instructions on how to build the
tabernacle. It would be a place of
sacrifice. It would be a place where
God's presence would dwell. The glory cloud above the tabernacle would lead the
people as they traveled through the desert. (Exodus 40:33-38).
"And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell
among them." - Exodus 25:8 KJV
"Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time
that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but
have walked in a tent and in a tabernacle." - 2 Samuel 7:6 KJV
"And he reared up the court round about the tabernacle
and the altar, and set up the hanging of the court gate. So Moses finished the
work. Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the
LORD filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of
the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD
filled the tabernacle." - Exodus 40:33-35 KJV
"And when the cloud was taken up from over the
tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward in all their journeys: But if
the cloud were not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was
taken up. For the cloud of the LORD was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire
was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all
their journeys." - Exodus 40:36-38 KJV
