Why I am baptized in Jesus name – Part 7 – The Man of
Ethiopia
Philip had been baptizing multitudes in the city of Samaria
in Jesus name. (Acts 8:12, Acts 8:16). In the midst of the revival, God called
Philip out to the desert of Gaza. (Acts 8:26). There was a soul, hungry for
truth, that needed to hear the gospel and for someone to baptize him in Jesus
name. God cares about the multitudes. He also cares when there is only one
soul.
"And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia,
an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the
charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, was
returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet." - Acts
8:27-28 KJV
"Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join
thyself to this chariot. And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the
prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?" - Acts
8:29-30 KJV
"And he said, How can I, except some man should guide
me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him...Then Philip
opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him
Jesus." - Acts 8:31, 35 KJV
"And as they went on their way, they came unto a
certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to
be baptized? ... And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went
down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized
him." - Acts 8:36, 38 KJV
How did Philip baptize? We know from how he baptized in the
city of Samaria, he baptized in Jesus name.
"(…They were baptized in the name of the Lord
Jesus.)" - Acts 8:16 KJV
I am baptized in Jesus name because all of the New Testament
church was baptized in Jesus name.
