Devices of satan

Jesus said we need to be born of the Spirit to enter the kingdom of God.

John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

We need His Spirit to belong to Him.

Romans 8:9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

If we want to please God, we must walk in the Spirit. To walk in the Spirit, we must STAY FULL of His Spirit.

Galatians 5:16-17 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

It is by the power of His Spirit that we overcome sin, live a holy life, and become witnesses.

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

The Spirit of Jesus acts as our Defense Attorney against satan, the Prosecutor. “Counsel for defense” is a meaning of the Greek word that is translated as “Comforter.”

John 14:16-18 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

Jesus gives us His Spirit to "plead the blood of Jesus," reminding satan that the blood of Jesus washed away our sins when we were baptized in Jesus name. Because we are now living a holy and overcoming life, satan has nothing to accuse us with!

Jesus gives us His Spirit to teach us and to remind us of what He said.

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

His Spirit guides us into all truth and will show us things to come.

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

It is by the power of His Spirit that we will be resurrected. It is His Spirit that will raise us up from the grave.

Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Because we need the Spirit of Jesus to be saved, there must be no confusion as to whether or not we have received His Spirit.

It makes sense that satan would try to deceive people as to whether or not they have received God's Spirit!

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Satan, the deceiver, would like a person to think they have received the Spirit of Jesus when they have not.

Thankfully, Jesus makes it clear when a person has received His Spirit: they speak in tongues (a language they have not learned) as the Spirit gives them the ability to speak.

Acts 2:4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

When we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (the Spirit of Jesus) we speak in tongues. We speak in tongues as Jesus speaks through us in a language we have not learned.

A key to why God chose tongues to be the sign of a person receiving His Spirit is found in James 3:3-8.

James 3:3-8 Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: but the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

In these verses, the tongue is described as an “unruly evil” among the members of the body. James declares, “The tongue can no man tame.” No man can tame the tongue, but by a repentant heart and our desire to receive the Spirit of Jesus, God can tame our tongue. With words of praise, worship, and thanksgiving, Jesus will baptize a person with His Holy Ghost and they will speak in another tongue (language) as the Spirit of Jesus speaks through them.

The tongue is the last thing to surrender to God when we are allowing Him to fill us with His Spirit. When the Lord controls our tongue, it is a sign that we have given Him full control of our life! Because the tongue is the last to surrender, it makes sense that tongues are the sign for being FILLED with the Holy Ghost.

Some people say, “I have the Holy Spirit, but I haven’t spoken in tongues – I don’t have the gift of tongues.”

This confusion comes from lack of knowing the Word of God. The Word shows that Jesus uses tongues for more than one purpose.

First of all, Jesus uses tongues when a person is filled with the Holy Ghost. Tongues are a sign. When a person is filled with God’s Spirit for the first time, they may speak only a few syllables, or may speak for a long duration. Because it is by God’s grace that Jesus gives us His Spirit, it is called the GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST.

Acts 2:38-39 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

When Peter preached the gospel to the Gentiles for the first time, Peter knew they received the Holy Ghost because he heard them speak in tongues.

Acts 10:45-48 And they of the circumcision [Jews] which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

Peter testified to Jewish Christians in Jerusalem:

Acts 11:15-18 And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.

When disciples of John the Baptist were re-baptized in Jesus name, Paul laid his hands on them and they received the Holy Ghost. When they received the Holy Ghost they spoke in tongues.

Acts 19:1-6 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, he said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Second, God uses tongues as one of the spiritual gifts. This gift is called, “divers kinds of tongues.”

1 Corinthians 12:4-7 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

1 Corinthians 12:8-10 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

The gifts are given to individuals for the profit of ALL. (1 Corinthians 12:7) Thus, divers kinds of tongues is used to give a message to the whole church body.

This gift, or “manifestation of the Spirit” needs to be combined with the gift of interpretation of tongues in order for the church to understand the message and to receive edifying. Otherwise, only the person speaking is edified (built up, strengthened).

1Corinthians 14:5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

1Corinthians 14:17-19 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified. I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all: yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.

The Bible gives rules of order for this.

1Corinthians 14:27-28 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

1Corinthians 14:39-40 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently and in order.

Everyone speaks in tongues when they receive the Holy Ghost, but not everyone speaks with the gift of diverse tongues.

This can be compared with faith and the GIFT of faith.

Everyone that comes to God must have faith.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

However, not everyone is used in the GIFT of faith.

The key that distinguishes the GIFT OF TONGUES is that it is for the purpose of ministering to the church body, rather than to an individual.

This holds true for all nine gifts of the Spirit. They are designed to operate when the whole church is come together.

For example, the gift of prophecy includes anointed preaching, which is ministered to the “whole church” body.

1Corinthians 14:23-25 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad? But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all: and thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.

Thirdly, God uses tongues in prayer.

When we have a feeling (“burden”) to pray for a person or situation and we do not know exactly what to pray, we can allow God to intercede in our prayer with tongues, speaking the words for us according to what God knows needs to be prayed.

Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Praying in tongues is also called praying “in the Spirit” and “praying in the Holy Ghost.”

Ephesians 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Jude 1:20-21 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

When we have prayed all the words we can think of, the Lord can pray through us in tongues as the Spirit of God speaks through us in languages we have not learned. The Lord can speak through us precisely what the person or situation needs and that only Jesus may know about! What a blessing to ourselves and others!

Receiving the Holy Ghost is necessary to be saved. When we receive the Holy Ghost, we speak in other tongues as the Spirit gives us utterance. Satan would rather have us confused about this so that we would be lost, and not receive the promises and blessings God has for every one of us.

But we are not ignorant of satan’s devices!

We know that without holiness no man shall see the Lord. What about follow peace with all men?

"Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:" - Hebrews 12:14

God made peace with us.

"And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven." - Colossians 1:20

"To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation." - 2 Corinthians 5:19

God forgave us. Now it is our turn to have peace with others and forgive. (Follow peace: “to seek after eagerly, earnestly endeavour to acquire” - Thayer’s)

"Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God." - Matthew 5:9

"Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful." - Luke 6:36

"For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more." - Hebrews 8:12

What if we do not follow peace with all men?

A servant owed the king ten thousand talents, but was unable to pay the debt. The king commanded that his family and possessions be sold to pay the debt. The servant begged for mercy.

"Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.

“But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that thou owest." - Matthew 18:27-28

The fellowservant begged for patience, promising he would pay. Yet the servant had no mercy, casting him into prison.

"Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee? And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.

[Note: Because the servant was not merciful, the debt that he had been forgiven of was put back on him.]

“So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses." - Matthew 18:33-35

We are the servant that had a debt we could not pay. Our Lord and King Jesus forgave us of our debt of sin. It is now our turn to be merciful and forgiving, and to make peace with all.

"Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;" - Hebrews 12:14-15

Following peace with all is essential to our salvation, not allowing unforgiveness in our life to turn into a root of bitterness, causing us to be defiled and to fail of the grace of God.

Fish seem to represent God’s MERCY. In the flood, ALL the fish lived; all fish received God’s MERCY. Jesus told his disciples, “Come ye after me, and I will make you to become FISHERS of MEN”. (Mark 1:17). Jesus sent his disciples into the world to preach the GOSPEL, which is the MERCY of God to all those that believe AND obey it. (Acts 2:38) Fish are known to have MANY offspring. Jesus told his disciples to go ye into ALL the world and preach the Gospel to EVERY creature. The EYES of fish are always open. We are told to WATCH!

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." - Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV

"In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." - 1 Thessalonians 5:18 KJV

"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." - Romans 8:28 KJV

When we trust the Lord with all of our heart, rather than our own understanding, and we acknowledge Him in our every decision, taking the path that He directs us to, then in every circumstance we can give thanks, knowing that all things are working together for our good according to His purpose, because we love God and are the called of Jesus. (Acts 2:38-42, 1 Peter 2:9-10, Revelation 17:14).

God blesses those that are not living for Him. He is not blessing them because He approves of their sin, He is blessing them because God is love. (1 John 4:16).

"That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain [in the Bible, rain is a blessing] on the just and on the unjust." - Matthew 5:45 KJV

"But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil." - Luke 6:35 KJV

What is the natural response of a person when God does this?

The response a person has to someone showing them love and mercy, is to love them in return.

When we truly love someone, we want to do things that please them. When we truly love Jesus, we want to do things that please Him.

Jesus tells us in His word how we can please Him.

"If ye love me, keep my commandments." - John 14:15 KJV

"The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. ... And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him." - Acts 5:30, 32 KJV

When they heard this gospel on the Day of Pentecost, they were pricked in their heart, and asked Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." - Acts 2:38-39 KJV

"And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

“Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

“And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers." - Acts 2:40-42 KJV

"For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous." - 1 John 5:3 KJV

Genesis 2:16-17 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

God gave Adam one commandment. Disobedience to God’s command would bring death.

Genesis 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die…

Jesus revealed that the serpent, the devil, is a liar and a murderer from the beginning.

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

The devil, that old serpent, lied to Eve, which led to Adam’s disobedience and death for all mankind.

Genesis 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

Romans 5:12 ¶Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned…

Yet, because of God’s mercy, He did not kill man. Instead, God took as a substitute the death of an innocent animal.

Genesis 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

For years, God accepted the sacrifice of clean animals to cover man’s sin. These sacrifices could never take away man’s sin; man's sin could only be pushed ahead.

Hebrews 10:3-4 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

While God had mercy on man in the beginning to accept the death of an animal in place of the death of Adam, the blood of animals could not satisfy. Now God’s grace would abound. As He promised to Eve in the beginning, God made a body of the seed of a woman to provide a sacrifice that would finally take away the sin of man.

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity [hatred] between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Galatians 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law...

Hebrews 10:5-6 ¶Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: in burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

The power of the devil, that old serpent, would receive a deathblow by the sacrifice of Christ, the seed [offspring] of the woman.

Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

As Adam disobeyed God in the beginning and brought sin and death upon all mankind, Jesus’ was obedient to death so that man could once again have eternal life. (1Corinthians 15:21-22).

Romans 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

What animal sacrifices could not do, God’s holy human body, Jesus Christ, could finally take away our sins.

Hebrews 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Because Jesus is God in a human body, He lives forever. When we are washed by His blood in baptism, we can receive His gift of His Holy Ghost and likewise live forever.

Revelations 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Jesus triumphed over the devil by His death on the tree, taking the devil’s power of death away from him. The devil can no longer justly accuse us of sin – Jesus paid the price of death for us. When we are baptized in Jesus name, our sins are erased.

Colossians 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. (Colossians 2:13-15).

Because of Jesus victory over the devil, the murderer from the beginning, we now have life through the blood that was shed by Jesus. Not the blood of animals, that by the mercy of God were a temporary covering of man’s sin, but now remission of our sins by the blood of Jesus applied to our life when we are baptized in Jesus name.

We are justified by His blood so that we may be sanctified by His Spirit. Able to have eternal life once again as Adam and Eve had in the beginning.

Ephesians 2:4-7 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) and hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: that in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

What was Jesus saying to Peter when He said, “Whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." Matthew 16:19?

According to Thayer's Greek Lexicon, the word “bind” in this verse means, “to forbid, prohibit, declare to be illicit,” while the word “loose” in this verse means, “to declare lawful.” In other words, it appears that Jesus in this verse is giving authority to Peter to establish doctrine.

Before Jesus ascended to heaven, Jesus spoke to His disciples. After opening their understanding, He revealed specifically the doctrine Peter was to preach. He was to preach Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, and then repentance and remission of sins in Jesus name. Jesus also spoke of the promise of the Father of the power they would receive. This is the gospel.

"Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, and said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem." - Luke 24:45-47 KJV

"And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high." - Luke 24:49 KJV

"And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence." - Acts 1:4-5 KJV

In Jerusalem, on the Day of Pentecost, the disciples all received the promise of the Father – the baptism of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:4, Acts 2:33) Peter, standing up with the other eleven apostles, lifted up his voice and declared to the multitude that had gathered the gospel: the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. (Acts 2:14, Acts 2:23-24)

Peter, with the keys of the kingdom of heaven and authority, both of which were given to him by Jesus, declared as doctrine how we must obey the gospel:

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." - Acts 2:38-39 KJV

Peter, in accord with the other eleven apostles, established on this day the doctrine (law) of salvation for the new testament church, Acts 2:38.

Jesus said, "And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." - Matthew 16:18-19

While David and his men were with Achish, the Amalekites had invaded the south, smitten and burned Ziklag with fire, and taken the women and children captives.

"Then David and the people that were with him lifted up their voice and wept, until they had no more power to weep." - 1 Samuel 30:4 KJV

"And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God." - 1 Samuel 30:6 KJV

When we are faced with discouragement and distressing situations of life, how do we in this dispensation encourage ourselves in the Lord?

"But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost," - Jude 1:20 KJV

Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

What is this rock? Christ - the smitten rock in the wilderness out of which the water to live flowed: 1 Corinthians 10:4 ...for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Thayer's Lexicon differentiates between "Peter" ("petros"): "a detached but large fragment" and "rock" ("petra"): "the massive living rock". Thus, Peter would be a chip off the rock.

Similarly, Jesus called Peter "Simon Barjona," which is "Simon son of Jona" (Matthew 16:17). Jesus compared Himself to Jonas: "For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." (Matthew 12:40) Peter became a son of Christ (Jona) by the gospel. All that obey the gospel become sons of God. (John 1:12-13).

Exodus 17:5-6 And the LORD said unto Moses...take...thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river...Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. (Horeb was where Israel received the Law. Jesus fulfilled the Law by His death.)

When the Lord told Moses to take his rod that he smote the river with, when the water poured out of the rock, God was bringing to remembrance blood, for when Moses smote the river with his rod, the water turned to blood.

This first time that Moses smote the rock represents Christ smitten on the cross. For out of Christ’s side came blood and water. (John 19:34).  This also represents water baptism in Jesus name. We are baptized into Christ’s death by baptism, and it is at baptism that His blood is applied to our life to wash away our sins. (Romans 6:3). The water at baptism has the remembrance of His blood that cleanses us of sin. (Acts 22:16).

The second time Moses struck the rock, Moses was to speak to the rock for the waters to come forth. This time the water would represent the Holy Ghost, for it is by belief and speaking that we receive the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost is compared to water: "He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)" - John 7:38-39 KJV

Numbers 20:8a Take the rod ... and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water...

Numbers 20:11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly...

Instead of believing the LORD that he and Aaron would bring forth water from the rock by their speaking, in anger Moses smote the rock twice, saying "ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?" (Numbers 20:10)

Numbers 20:12 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

Only those of faith, believing God, could enter into the land, which God had given them. Joshua and Caleb, the faithful witnesses that spied out the land, would enter, while Moses would not. It is by faith, not works, that we receive the promised gift of the Holy Ghost.

Thus, the rock is more than a revelation that Jesus is God incarnate: the rock represents the smiting of Christ and the subsequent pouring out of water represents His blood and Spirit.

It is upon the smitten rock – Christ – that the church is built. And it is by His blood and Spirit that the gates of hell cannot prevail! When the church baptizes souls in the name of Jesus and they are filled with His Spirit, the gates of hell cannot prevail against the church!

We are in this world, but we are not of this world. We are servants of our Lord and Saviour Jesus.

"They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world." - John 17:16

"But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life." - Romans 6:22

"For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." - 1 Corinthians 6:20

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." - James 4:7

"Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world." - 1 John 4:4

"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." - Philippians 4:13

Daniel was a servant of the Lord. He was taken captive to the foreign kingdom of Babylon and made a servant of a heathen king that did not serve the Lord. Daniel was determined to live for God no matter where he was nor what his situation.

"But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank..." - Daniel 1:8

In the midst of Babylon, Daniel was faithful to God, and God blessed him greatly. The king glorified God:

"Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him. The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldest reveal this secret. Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon." - Daniel 2:46-48 KJV

Another time, after God delivered Daniel from the lion’s den, the king made this decree, glorifying God:

"Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you. I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end." - Daniel 6:25-26 KJV

The Deceitfulness of Pride

We must be so very cautious to not allow pride to creep into our thinking.

"Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." - Proverbs 16:18 KJV

It was by pride that Lucifer the devil fell into condemnation. He made five statements exalting himself, beginning with the words, “I WILL.”

"For thou hast said in thine heart,

“I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

“Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit." - Isaiah 14:13-15 KJV

If we aren’t careful, we too can fall from pride.

Apostle Paul spoke of pride, when he gave instructions to Timothy on requirements for the office of a bishop.

"Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil." - 1 Timothy 3:6 KJV

("He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil." - 1 Timothy 3:6 NIV)

The Long Form of What was Jesus saying?

 He that believeth what?

The gospel!

What is the gospel?

Christ died for our sins, He was buried, He rose again the third day.

"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" - 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV

If we are going to be saved, we must BELIEVE the gospel, AND be BAPTIZED. When we are baptized, we have OBEYED the gospel. (Baptized of water and of the Spirit – John 3:5).

We “obey” His death by dying to sin by repentance.
We “obey” His burial by being buried with HIM by baptism in JESUS name.
We “obey” His resurrection by being filled with His Spirit so that we walk in new life.

"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?  Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." - Romans 6:1-4 KJV

"But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?" - Romans 10:16 KJV

"For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?" - 1 Peter 4:17 KJV

"In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:" - 2 Thessalonians 1:8 KJV

On the Day of Pentecost, after hearing Peter preach the gospel – the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus – the people asked Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”

Conclusion: Jesus is saying, he that believeth the gospel and is baptized shall be saved.

What was Jesus saying?

"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned." - Mark 16:15-16 KJV

He that believeth what?

The gospel!

What is the gospel?

Christ died for our sins, He was buried, He rose again the third day. (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)

(Romans 6:1-4).

On the Day of Pentecost, after hearing Peter preach the gospel – the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus – the people asked Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we DO?” (my emphasis).

Those that love God, who are the called, can know that God causes everything to work together for good to accomplish His purpose in our life, others’ lives, and for His kingdom.

The Bible says, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." - Romans 8:28

This verse says all things work together for good to them that love God. How does the Bible say that we love God?

"For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous." - 1 John 5:3 KJV

This verse also says, all things work together for good to them who are the called. Who are the called?

God calls us, drawing us to Him, giving us the desire to know Him, the desire to know His word.

We find ourselves hearing a preacher preach the gospel - the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (1Corinthians 15:1-4)

We hear that to obey the gospel we must repent, be baptized in Jesus name so that our sins will be washed away, and receive the gift of His Spirit within us. (Romans 6:1-8, Acts 2:38)

We have been called.

When we respond to God’s call, we turn our back on sin, we are baptized in Jesus name for the remission of our sins, and we receive the Holy Ghost, speaking in other tongues as we allow the Spirit of God to take control of our words. (Acts 2:38-39, Acts 2:4)

Now we have become “the called.”

"Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ." - 2 Thessalonians 2:14 KJV

"Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:" - Romans 1:6 KJV

"These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful." - Revelation 17:14 KJV

When we are yoked together with God, all the things we go through are for our good. Everything we go through has a purpose. Through it all, we are growing into a better person – and growing into a better member of His kingdom.

The things we go through help us to bear spiritual fruit – love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith and faithfulness, humility, and self-control.

Knowing that God has things in control for our benefit can give us peace and confidence in the midst of trials and the storms of life. When we look back on situations, we can see how God worked it out for our good and for a purpose.

Just like God did for Joseph!

"But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive." - Genesis 50:20 KJV

Church!

We need to be fed. When we have obeyed the gospel, we become as a newborn babe in Christ. The Bible says, we need the milk of the Word so we can grow.

"Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, as newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: if so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious." - 1 Peter 2:1-3 KJV

We have left behind sin by repentance, have buried it in baptism in Jesus name, and have been filled with new life by the Spirit of Jesus. (Acts 2:38-39). By the preaching of the Word of God, and by the power of His Spirit, we begin the growth process, learning how to live a holy life.

"And he gave some [Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church:], apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:" - Ephesians 4:11-12 KJV

"And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding." - Jeremiah 3:15 KJV

As we grow, being faithful to the house of God to hear the preaching and teaching of the Word, applying it to our life, and being a witness to others, we may go on to perfection [maturity] with the meat of the word. (1 Corinthians 3:1-3, Hebrews 5:12-14, Hebrews 6:1-2).

"But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil." - Hebrews 5:14 KJV

For we know Jesus loves us and wants us to be all He wants for us to be in His kingdom!

"That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;" - Colossians 1:10 KJV

"Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.

“Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? [Abraham lived approximately 2000 years earlier.]

“Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

“Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by." - John 8:56-59 KJV

Why did the Jews take up stones to cast at Jesus?

Because they understood that Jesus was letting them know He is God, the “I AM.”

"And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you." - Exodus 3:14 KJV

The Long Form of “What was Jesus telling Nathaniel?”

"And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man." - John 1:51

In Genesis 28:10-22, the Bible tells of Jacob and a dream he had of angels ascending and descending from heaven.

In that dream, Jacob realized that the awesome presence of God was in that place, and he had not known it. He said, “This is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”

He took the stone that was his pillow, sat it up for a pillar, poured oil upon the top of it, and called the place Bethel – “House of God.”

When Jesus said ye shall see the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man, it appears He was connecting Jacob’s dream to Himself.

Jesus is God in human flesh, yet the world knew it not. Jesus is the house of God (God’s human body). He is the gate of heaven. He is the anointed stone that was rejected and become “the head of the corner.”

"And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran. And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.

“And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

“And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; and thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

“And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.

“And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not. And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

“And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it. And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.

“And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God: And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee." - Genesis 28:10-22

What is the connection?

Jacob was in the very presence of the LORD, and yet did not know it!

The LORD walked among His creation in the form of Christ, and yet they did not know it! Even His own people did not recognize Him.

"He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not." - John 1:10 KJV

Jacob said, “How dreadful is this place!”

The meaning of “dreadful” in this verse according to Thayer’s is, “venerable, august,” which means, “commanding respect because of impressive dignity; inspiring reverence or admiration; of supreme dignity or grandeur; majestic:”

Jesus is God, but instead He was treated otherwise.

"He came unto his own, and his own received him not." - John 1:11 KJV

Jacob said, “This is none other but the house of God…”

One day, Jesus’ disciples were speaking to Him about the Temple in Jerusalem.

"Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. ... But he spake of the temple of his body." - John 2:19, 21

Because Jesus is God in flesh, His body is the house of God.

When Jacob awoke from his dream he said, “This is the gate of heaven.”

"Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." - Matthew 7:13-14

"Yes, I am the gate. Those who come in through me will be saved. They will come and go freely and will find good pastures." - John 10:9 NLT

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." - John 14:6

He then “took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.” Then he said, “And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house.”

“Christ” means “anointed.”

"And he poured of the anointing oil upon Aaron's head, and anointed him, to sanctify him." - Leviticus 8:12

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord." - Luke 4:18-19

Jesus is called, “The stone that the builders rejected.”

"Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?" - Matthew 21:42

One of the meanings of the word “world” as it is used in the New Testament is, “the ungodly multitude; the whole mass of men alienated from God, and therefore hostile to the cause of Christ.” Another meaning is, “the whole circle of earthly goods, endowments riches, advantages, obstacles to the cause of Christ.” (Both of these definitions are from Thayer’s Greek Lexicon)

This is what the Bible says about the “world” in this context.

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever." - 1 John 2:15-17 KJV

When we covenant with Jesus, our Heavenly Father, we turn our back on the things of this world and give our hearts to Him. We are baptized in His name Jesus for the remission of our sins, and have received the Holy Ghost, God’s gift of His Holy Spirit to those that covenant with Him.

"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with ALL thine heart, and with ALL thy soul, and with ALL thy might." - Deuteronomy 6:4-5 KJV (Capitals my emphasis)

God does not accept #2 position in our relationship with Him. He is to be our one and only! We choose either to love the world and the pleasures of sin, or to love Jesus.

"Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God." - James 4:4 KJV

"Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." - Matthew 4:10 KJV

When we covenanted with Jesus, we left the world behind us. Like Jesus, we are in the world but we are not of the world.

"They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world." - John 17:16 KJV

The word “world” is translated from another word in the New Testament that means, “period of time, age.” This includes the meaning, “men controlled by the thoughts and pursuits of this present time...conformably to the age to which this (wicked) world belongs...the devil, who rules the thoughts and deeds of the men of this age... (Thayer’s Greek Lexicon)

By our old sinful nature, which was disobedient to God, we once walked being blinded by the god of this world, the prince of the power of the air.

"Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:" - Ephesians 2:2 KJV

"In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." - 2 Corinthians 4:4 KJV

By the gospel, we have been transformed. While we were once blind, now we see.

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." - Romans 12:2 KJV

Baptized in His name, and filled with His Spirit, we are now on the winning side with Jesus, our Heavenly Father and Creator of the universe.

"Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world." - 1 John 4:4 KJV

By the gospel, we are born of God - born of water and of the Spirit - and are overcomers of this world.

"For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith." - 1 John 5:4 KJV

While we are still in this world, we do not have enemies that we wrestle in the physical sense; we wrestle in the spiritual, keeping the victory and interceding for others to be set free from the world, praying for them in the Spirit.

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." - Ephesians 6:12 KJV

"Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing." - John 15:4-5

How does Jesus abide in us, and we abide in Him?

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

“For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." - Acts 2:38-39

When we decide to follow Jesus and turn our back on sin, we covenant with Him by water baptism in Jesus name. Our sins are remitted and we receive His gift of His Spirit, which is the Holy Ghost.

"But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life." - Romans 6:22

Jesus is the vine, and we are the branches.

"For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring." - Acts 17:28

With His Spirit in us, we begin bearing the fruit of His Spirit.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." - Galatians 5:22-23

"That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;" - Colossians 1:10

"Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples." - John 15:8

"Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you." - John 15:16

We also are fruitful by sharing the gospel with others. Through our witness, the Word, and prayer, God gives the increase and new souls are born into the kingdom.

"Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase." - 1 Corinthians 3:5-7

"He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing." - John 15:5

Faith

"And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you." - Luke 17:5-6

Jesus told His disciples, a grain of mustard seed is the smallest of seeds, yet when it is sown, it grows and becomes greater than all herbs. (Mark 4:31-32)

When faith is sown in our heart, even if it is a tiny seed of faith, it will grow and become great faith.

We hear about Jesus. We believe. A tiny seed of faith is planted. We begin praying, thanking Jesus for another day of life. We ask Him for His help with the things of life we are going through. We see Jesus answering prayer after prayer. We see Him working miracles. We see His healing touch in our life. With each prayer answered, our faith grows.

Faith is essential to our relationship with God.

"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." - Hebrews 11:6

We have faith in God. We believe the Creator of the universe stepped down into humanity, taking on the form of man, so that He could pay the price of our sins.

Through faith by believing, we are baptized in Jesus name, applying His blood to our life for the remission of our sins. (Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38)

Because of our faith, we believe God's promise, and receive the gift of His Spirit in us, the Holy Ghost.

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." - Acts 2:38-39

Faith is the beginning. Faith grows. Faith takes us through trials, works miracles, and takes us places as God’s hands, feet, and mouthpiece. We live by faith. We walk by faith. We stand fast in faith. And faith keeps us to the day when we see our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ face to face.

When Jesus made peace between us and Himself on the cross, Jesus also conquered the devil.

"Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage." - Hebrews 2:14-15 KJV

By the gospel - Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection - Jesus abolished death and brought us eternal life. We are saved by His death, burial, and resurrection when we turn to Him in repentance to live a holy life, when we are baptized, with the name of Jesus called upon us for the remission of our sins, and when we are filled with His Spirit (speaking in tongues as His Spirit gives us the utterance).

Jesus saves us, not because we deserve it, but because this was His plan from before the beginning of time to bring grace and mercy by His manifesting Himself in flesh as our Savior Jesus Christ.

"Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, but is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:" - 2 Timothy 1:9-10 KJV
