"This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not
fulfil the lust of the flesh." - Galatians 5:16 KJV
How do we walk in the Spirit?
The first step is repentance – we are sorry for our sins and
purpose in our heart and mind to turn our back on a sinful lifestyle.
"Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye
separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive
you…" - 2 Corinthians 6:17
When we were in the world, we fulfilled the lusts of our
flesh and had for our destiny the wrath of God.
"Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course
of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that
now worketh in the children of disobedience: among whom also we all had our
conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of
the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as
others." - Ephesians 2:2-3
"Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are
these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry,
witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings,
murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you
before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things
shall not inherit the kingdom of God." - Galatians 5:19-21 KJV
When we repent and come out of the world, we turn our back
on the works of the flesh. When we are water baptized in Jesus name, our sins
are washed away. It is necessary to be baptized in JESUS name, as the Bible
says, so that the blood of JESUS can remit our sins.
"For this is my blood of the new testament, which is
shed for many for the remission of sins." - Matthew 26:28
"And that repentance and remission of sins should be
preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem." - Luke
24:47
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to
your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God
shall call." - Acts 2:38-39
When we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, God gives us the
power to overcome the lusts of our flesh.
"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost
is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in
all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." -
Acts 1:8 KJV
When we are filled with the Holy Ghost, we can walk in the
Spirit. We not only have power over the works of the flesh, but we can bare the
fruit of the Spirit.
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such
there is no law." - Galatians 5:22-23 KJV
"And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh
with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in
the Spirit [Let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives]."
- Galatians 5:24-25 KJV
