When Christ died, He died once to break the power of sin. When He rose from the grave, He is alive forevermore. So we also should consider ourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God, now and forever.
"For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in
that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be
dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not
sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts
thereof." - Romans 6:10-12
"But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision
for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof." - Romans 13:14
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38 KJV
"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which
are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit."
- Romans 8:1
"For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if
ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as
many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God." - Romans
8:13-14
"This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not
fulfil the lust of the flesh. ... If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in
the Spirit." - Galatians 5:16, 25
"But now being made free from sin, and become servants
to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life." -
Romans 6:22
