When we have obeyed the gospel, Jesus has given us a fresh start to live a new life. All our sins have been washed away by the blood of Jesus when we were baptized in the name of Jesus. He has given us the power to live above sin when He filled us with His Spirit, the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:38).
It is time to use the power of His Spirit, the authority of
His name, and the new start He has given us to live a changed life. He has
given us His Spirit, so we should walk in His Spirit and not give in to
temptations.
Jesus took up His cross and died, was buried, and rose again
on the third day. This is the gospel.
We take up our cross
and become dead to sin by repentance, are buried with Jesus by water baptism in
the name of Jesus for the remission (forgiveness) of our sins, and are raised from
the dead by the infilling of His Holy Ghost, “the glory of the Father,” to walk
a new life in His Spirit. This is how we obey the gospel.
"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that
grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any
longer therein? Know ye not, that so
many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
"Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into
death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the
Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
"For if we have been planted together in the likeness
of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
"Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him,
that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve
sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin." - Romans 6:1-7
"For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ
have put on Christ." - Galatians 3:27
"And they that
are Christ's have crucified the flesh [sinful nature] with the affections and
lusts [passions and desires of the sinful nature]." - Galatians 5:24
