We need to study the Word so that we will not be ashamed of our lack of knowledge of the word of truth.
"Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman
that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." - 2
Timothy 2:15 KJV
We need to study the Word so that we will not be deceived:
"That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;" - Ephesians 4:14 KJV
We need to read the Word and know the doctrines of the
Bible. In doing this we shall both save our self and those that hear us.
"Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine;
continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that
hear thee." - 1 Timothy 4:16 KJV
We need to be skillful in the Word of God:
"For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have
need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of
God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For
every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is
a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who
by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and
evil." - Hebrews 5:12-14 KJV
The Word of God is a major part of our armour against satan:
"Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to
stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and
blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the
darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore
take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the
evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins
girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your
feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the
shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of
the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God:" - Ephesians 6:11-17 KJV
Jesus fought the devil with the Word of God – “It is written:”
"And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be
the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. But he answered and
said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that
proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Then the devil taketh him up into the holy
city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, and saith unto him, If thou
be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his
angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest
at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto him, It is
written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. Again, the devil taketh
him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the
world, and the glory of them; And saith unto him, All these things will I give
thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get
thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and
him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came
and ministered unto him." - Matthew 4:3-11 KJV
It is of utmost importance to study the scriptures. By
studying the word of God, the preached word is confirmed, we are established in
the faith, and we become equipped to share the truth with others.
Because those in Berea “received the word with all readiness
of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so,” the
Bible says, “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica.”
As a result, in Berea many Jews believed, as well as many of
the prominent Greek women and men.
