Thy Kingdom Come

When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He said to pray, “Thy kingdom come." (Luke 11:1-2, Matthew 6:10).

"And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you." - Luke 17:20-21 KJV

Jesus revealed that the kingdom of God is a spiritual kingdom, not a physical kingdom.

"For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost." - Romans 14:17 KJV

Jesus explained how to enter the kingdom of God. We are born into the kingdom by a spiritual birth of water and Spirit.

"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." - John 3:3-6 KJV

We see later that being born of water is baptism in water in Jesus name, and being born of the Spirit is being baptized with the Spirit, which is the Holy Ghost.

Jesus’ disciples, even after His death, burial, and resurrection, still did not understand that the kingdom of God is spiritual, not physical. God’s kingdom is one of power in the Holy Ghost.

"When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." - Acts 1:6-8 KJV

On the day of Pentecost, Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, preached how to be born of water and of the Spirit.

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38 KJV

Apostle Paul revealed further who can enter into the kingdom of God and how. It is for all those that repent of their sins, are washed and justified by the blood of Jesus by baptism in Jesus name, and sanctified by the Spirit of God by receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:38).

"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." - 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 KJV
