What is a ransom?
It is the price you pay to free someone that is being held
captive. When it is someone you love, you are willing to make whatever
sacrifice it takes.
We were held captive by our sins. We were faced with a death
sentence.
"For the wages of sin is death..." - Romans 6:23
Satan, the Prosecutor, stands ready to accuse us of our
sins.
God is Spirit. Because of His great love for us, He took on
the form of flesh – “the Son of man” - and stepped in to pay the ransom for us.
There is only one God. He is our Father. His name is Jesus.
"Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto,
but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many." - Matthew 20:28
Our Father loved us so much, He was willing to pay whatever sacrifice
it would take: the price of our ransom was His life blood.
"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay
down his life for his friends." - John 15:13
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while
we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by
his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him." - Romans 5:8-9
"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the
flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the
church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood." - Acts 20:28
"Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh
and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death
he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and
deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to
bondage." - Hebrews 2:14-15
Because God paid the ransom of His blood for us, the devil
has no power over us. God came in the form of flesh – the Son (flesh) of God – so
that He could shed the blood that would set us free.
"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be
free indeed." - John 8:36
"And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come
salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his
Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before
our God day and night." - Revelation 12:10
When we have applied the blood – the ransom Jesus paid to
set us free from our sins – we are free indeed.
"And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by
the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the
death." - Revelation 12:11
We apply the blood of Jesus by water baptism in Jesus name.
It is by baptism in Jesus name that we are set free from our sins by their
remission.
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38
"For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and
to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." -
Acts 2:39
"For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again
to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba,
Father." - Romans 8:15
