Part 17 – I am baptized in the name of Jesus so that I can fulfill the covenant of circumcision.
It is by our obedience to the gospel that we fulfill the covenant of circumcision. We obey the gospel by repentance, by water baptism in the name of Jesus, and by receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost. (1 Corinthians 15:1-4, Romans 6:1-4, Acts 2:38)
"In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands [not by a physical procedure], in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh [the cutting away of your sinful nature] by the circumcision of Christ [by a spiritual circumcision]: buried with him in baptism [buried by baptism in the name of Jesus], wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God [the Holy Ghost], who hath raised him from the dead." - Colossians 2:11-12
God spoke to Abraham -
"He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant." - Genesis 17:13
Jewish physical circumcision is a blood covenant not considered complete unless a drop of blood is actually drawn.
Spiritual circumcision by water baptism is also a blood covenant when it is done in the name of Jesus. It is only complete when in the name of Jesus, which applies His blood.
"He is the one all the prophets testified about, saying that everyone who believes in him will have their sins forgiven [remission of sins] through his name." - Acts 10:43 NLT
"For this is my blood of the new testament [new covenant], which is shed for many for the remission of sins." - Matthew 26:28
