It appears that generally, when we may look upon God’s face, we are seeing His mercy. If His face is against or turned away from a person, His judgment is upon them.
"Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it
cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: but your iniquities
have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from
you, that he will not hear." - Isaiah 59:1-2 KJV
"For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and
his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them
that do evil." - 1 Peter 3:12 KJV
"In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a
moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD
thy Redeemer." - Isaiah 54:8 KJV
"And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto
Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of
Israel, saying unto them, The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his
face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:" - Numbers 6:22-25 KJV
"And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land:
for they have heard that thou LORD art among this people, that thou LORD art
seen face to face, and that thy cloud standeth over them, and that thou goest
before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by
night." - Numbers 14:14 KJV
"If my people, which are called by my name, shall
humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways;
then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their
land." - 2 Chronicles 7:14 KJV
"And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in
their foreheads. And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle,
neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall
reign for ever and ever." - Revelation 22:4-5 KJV
