The Lord desires to dwell among His people.
The Lord spoke to Moses:
"And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell
among them." - Exodus 25:8 KJV
The Lord dwelt among His people in this sanctuary, from the
time they were in the wilderness, until when King Solomon built and dedicated
the temple in Jerusalem.
"Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire
came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and
the glory of the LORD filled the house." - 2 Chronicles 7:1 KJV
Isaiah prophesied that God would one day inhabit human flesh
and dwell among us. He came in His name Jesus. (Isaiah 9:6, Matthew 1:21-23, Isaiah
7:14, John 1:1, 14, Matthew 1:21, Acts 4:12, Philippians 2:9-11).
Jesus spoke to the Jews.
"Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this
temple, and in three days I will raise it up. Then said the Jews, Forty and six
years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? But
he spake of the temple of his body." - John 2:19-21 KJV
Jesus paid for our sins by His death so that He could not
just dwell among us, but dwell within us.
"And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you
another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; even the Spirit of
truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth
him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not
leave you comfortless: I will come to you." - John 14:16-18 KJV
By the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, we become His
temple when we repent, are baptized in His name Jesus for the remission of our sins,
and receive the gift of His Spirit within us. (Acts 2:38).
"Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that
the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?" - 1 Corinthians 3:16 KJV
"For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God
in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." - 1 Corinthians 6:20
KJV
"…For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath
said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they
shall be my people." - 2 Corinthians 6:16 KJV
