A ram is a male sheep.
It was a ram that took the place of Isaac as a burnt
sacrifice on mount Moriah.
The ram is a type and shadow of Jesus. Just as the ram was
sacrificed in the place of Isaac, Jesus was sacrificed in our place. Isaac was
set free. He became a living sacrifice. Just Jesus set us free from eternal
death for our sins, like Isaac we become a living sacrifice.
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of
God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God,
which is your reasonable service." - Romans 12:1 KJV
It was a ram’s horn that blew at Mount Sinai. (Strong’s
#H3104 - yobel). "…When the trumpet[H3104] soundeth long, they shall come
up to the mount." - Exodus 19:13 KJV
It was a ram’s horn that was blown on the seventh day when
the children of Israel marched around Jericho seven times. When the ram’s horn
was blown with a long blast, the people shouted with a loud shout and the walls
of Jericho fell down. (Strong’s #H3104 -yobel). "And seven priests shall
bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns:[H3104] … " - Joshua 6:4
KJV
This same Hebrew word “ram’s horn” also means “jubilee.”
(Strong’s #H3104 -yobel). The jubilee was the fiftieth year announced by a
blast of a ram’s horn during the Day of Atonement. (Leviticus 25:9-11). It was known as the Year of Liberty. No
agricultural work was allowed, slaves were released, and all property returned
to the original family. (Isaiah 61:1-2, Luke 4:18-19).
"Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh
and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death
he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And
deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to
bondage." - Hebrews 2:14-15 KJV
The central observance of the Jewish New Year is blowing the
ram’s horn for a total of 100 blasts - a reminder of a king’s coronation, a
call to repentance, and when a ram took Isaac’s place as an offering to God,
which occurred on this day.
The ram’s horn is a call to return to God.
It appears the ram’s horn will be sounded at the rapture –
the trump of God.
"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a
shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead
in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught
up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall
we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words."
- 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 KJV
