When Paul said, “I die daily” he was NOT saying he repented daily. He WAS saying he risked his life on a daily basis. (“I face death daily.” (NLT); “Every day I am in danger of death!” (NET))
"And why stand we in jeopardy every hour? I protest by
your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.
Paul was willing to face death daily because of his hope
through the gospel to be resurrected to life beyond life in this world. (1Thessalonians
4:13-18).
“If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at
Ephesus, what advantageth it me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink;
for to morrow we die." - 1 Corinthians 15:30-32 KJV [Beasts: 2Peter 2:12, Jude
1:10; 1Corinthians 15:19]
"For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our
trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above
strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: But we had the sentence of
death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which
raiseth the dead: who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in
whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;" - 2 Corinthians 1:8-10 KJV [2
Corinthians 11:23, 24-28]
Just as Jesus laid down His life and was resurrected, Paul
was willing to lay down his life for Jesus’ sake. Because of the treasure of
the Spirit in him, Paul also had the hope of resurrection to life eternal.
(Romans 8:11).
"But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the
excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every
side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but
not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; always bearing about in the body
the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest
in our body. For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus' sake,
that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh. So then
death worketh in us, but life in you." - 2 Corinthians 4:7-12 KJV [“So we
live in the face of death, but this has resulted in eternal life for you.”]
"Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall
raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you." - 2 Corinthians
4:14 KJV
