This principle was established in the Old Testament:
"For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have
given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is
the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul." - Leviticus 17:11 KJV
"And almost all things are by the law purged with
blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission." - Hebrews 9:22 KJV
For a time, God accepted animal sacrifices.
"For the law having a shadow of good things to come,
and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which
they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect...
But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away
sins." - Hebrews 10:1, 3-4 KJV
Only Holy God revealed in a body of sinless flesh could
provide a sacrifice to take away our sins. (Hebrews 10:10, Hebrews 4:15,
Hebrews 9:28, 1Peter 2:22, 1John 3:5).
"For since by man came death, by man came also the
resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all
be made alive." - 1 Corinthians 15:21-22 KJV
"To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world
unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them..." - 2 Corinthians
5:19 KJV
The blood of Jesus for atonement and remission of sins is
applied through His name in water baptism.
He supplied it. We must apply it.
"For this is my blood of the new testament, which is
shed for many for the remission of sins." - Matthew 26:28 KJV
"To him give all the prophets witness, that through his
name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins." - Acts
10:43 KJV
["He is the one all the prophets testified about,
saying that everyone who believes in him will have their sins forgiven through
his name."" - Acts 10:43 NLT]
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to
your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God
shall call." - Acts 2:38-39 KJV
"And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and
wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord." - Acts 22:16 KJV
