"Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him,
If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know
the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - John 8:31-32 KJV
What is the truth that makes us free? And what are we made
free from?
We are made free from sin.
"But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin,
but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered
you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of
righteousness." - Romans 6:17-18 KJV
The
truth that makes us free from sin is the gospel of Jesus. He is the way, the
truth, and the life. We are
made free when we believe and obey the gospel, “that from of doctrine which was
delivered you.”
"In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word
of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye
were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise," - Ephesians 1:13 KJV
The gospel is that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and
rose again the third day. (1Corinthians 15:1-4). We repent of our
sins, are baptized in Jesus name for the remission of sins, and receive His holy
Spirit of promise, the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:38).
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to
your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God
shall call." - Acts 2:38-39 KJV
"But now being made free from sin, and become servants
to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life." -
Romans 6:22 KJV
