When Jesus explained to Nicodemus about the kingdom of God and being born of water and of the Spirit, Jesus compared being born of the Spirit to the wind.
"The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest
the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth:
so is every one that is born of the Spirit." - John 3:8 KJV
Jesus explained by comparison, that you cannot tell when the
Spirit comes or where it goes, except by the sound you hear.
On the day of Pentecost, we see what Jesus was talking about
to Nicodemus. This was the first time that God poured out His Spirit, the Holy
Ghost.
"And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a
rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting... And
they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other
tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." - Acts 2:2, 4 KJV
Apparently, the sound of those in the upper room all
speaking in tongues sounded like the wind. It does not say there was a wind; it
says there came a SOUND FROM
Just as Jesus said, they could not tell when the Spirit came
or where it went, but they heard the sound of the Spirit – they were all
speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
As Jesus said, “So is every one that is born of the Spirit.”
