The Body of Jesus as the Temple of God
"Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this
temple, and in three days I will raise it up. Then said the Jews, Forty and six
years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? But
he spake of the temple of his body." - John 2:19-21 KJV
Just as God’s Spirit dwelt within the temple in Jerusalem in
the days of Solomon (2 Chronicles 5:14), so God’s Spirit dwelt in the temple of His body.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with
God, and the Word was God. ... And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,
(and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,)
full of grace and truth." - John 1:1, 14 KJV
"For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead
bodily [For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body]." -
Colossians 2:9 KJV
Just as God placed His name on the temple in Jerusalem (1
Kings 8:29), God placed His name on the temple of Jesus’ body.
"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call
his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." - Matthew
1:21 KJV
"I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not:
if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive." - John 5:43
KJV
Just as the temple in Jerusalem was a place of sacrifice (2
Chronicles 7:12), Jesus’ body was a place of (was the) sacrifice.
"And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and
hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a
sweetsmelling savour." - Ephesians 5:2 KJV
"Take heed
therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost
hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased
with his own blood." - Acts 20:28 KJV
