What is the Gospel?
The Bible tells us the gospel is that Jesus died for our
sins, He was buried, and on the third day He rose again.
"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel
which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
... For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that
Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried,
and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" - 1
Corinthians 15:1, 3-4 KJV
The Bible says we are saved by the gospel.
"By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what
I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain." - 1 Corinthians
15:2 KJV
The Bible says that we not only need to hear the gospel, but
we must obey the gospel to be saved.
"In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not
God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:" - 2
Thessalonians 1:8 KJV
How do we obey the gospel?
We obey the gospel by repentance, water baptism in Jesus
name, and Holy Ghost infilling.
Repentance is death to sin. Water baptism in Jesus name is
burial of old nature. Holy Ghost infilling is resurrection to new life.
"God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live
any longer therein? Know ye not, that so
many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was
raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk
in newness of life." - Romans 6:2-4 KJV
This is what Peter preached on the Day of Pentecost when the
Holy Ghost was first poured out.
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38 KJV
On that day, about 3000 were baptized with water and with
the Spirit. (John 3:5).
"Then they that gladly received his word were baptized:
and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls." -
Acts 2:41 KJV
"And they continued stedfastly in the apostles'
doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers." - Acts
2:42 KJV
