"To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world
unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them [no longer counting
people’s sins against them].; and hath committed unto us the word of
reconciliation [And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation]."
- 2 Corinthians 5:19 KJV
What is this message of reconciliation that God has given
us?
It is the gospel – that Jesus died for our sins, was buried,
and on the third day rose again! We obey the gospel when we take up our cross
and follow Jesus by putting our sinful desires on the cross, by being buried
with Him by water baptism, and by rising leaving our sins behind in a watery
grave to walk a new life with the infilling of His Holy Spirit. This is what
Peter preached on the Day of Pentecost.
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to
your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God
shall call." - Acts 2:38-39
"Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God
did beseech you by us [God is making his appeal through us]: we pray you in
Christ's stead [we speak for Christ when we plead], be ye reconciled to God [“Come
back to God!”]." - 2 Corinthians 5:20
God gave us His mercy and love when He gave His life on the
cross. We have received God’s mercy and love when we repented of ours sins, took
His name Jesus in baptism, and received the infilling of His Spirit. We now
have peace with God. And now we are His
ambassadors, reaching out to others, pleading with them to be reconciled to God
by making peace with Him by the gospel. (Acts 2:38).
