Part 2 of The Comforter… The Defense Attorney

"But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:" - John 15:26 KJV

From the time of Adam, we were separated from God’s Spirit by sin. (Isaiah 59:2). To be reconciled with God, it took God, putting on human flesh and blood, to shed His sinless blood to pay the price for our sin. (Isaiah 59:16-17). Our heavenly Father came in His name Jesus to bring us salvation. (Matthew 1:21, John 14:2-10).

Jesus suffered and died for our sins, was buried, and rose again, so that He could come and dwell in us. Jesus did this first to take care of the sin problem that separated us from His Spirit. Now, when we obey the gospel by repenting of our sins and being baptized in Jesus name for the remission of our sins, we can receive the gift of His Spirit. (Acts 2:28-39).

Satan does not want souls to be forgiven of their sins. This is why satan does not want people to repent and be baptized in Jesus name: he does not want the blood of Jesus that brings forgiveness to be applied to our lives. (2 Corinthians 4:3-4, Ephesians 6:10-12).

Satan wants us to be judged by the Law, which brings death. The Jews call him the Prosecutor. We know him as the Accuser of the brethren. He brings charges against people, accusing them of their sins.

"And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night." - Revelation 12:10

Satan wants a person to pay the price of their sin. Those that have obeyed the gospel and have had their sins forgiven, he still accuses. He brings up the sins of our past and does not want to recognize that the blood of Jesus has washed away our sins. (Revelation 1:5, Acts 22:16).

"But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:" - John 15:26

The word “Comforter” means “Counsel for Defense.” (Thayer’s Greek Lexicon) The Comforter defends us from the Prosecutor’s accusations. The Holy Ghost in us testifies of the blood of Jesus we are covered with because we have been baptized in Jesus name. (Isaiah 59:19, Revelation 1:5, Acts 22:16, Acts 2:38).

The Comforter – our Defense Attorney – testifies pleading the blood of Jesus on our life, reminding satan that our sins are forgiven and he has nothing to accuse us with!

"I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you." - John 14:18
