Thy kingdom come
When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He spoke of His
kingdom saying to pray, Thy kingdom come. (Luke 11:1-2, Matthew 6:10). What was
Jesus talking about?
"And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the
kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God
cometh not with observation: neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there!
for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you." - Luke 17:20-21 KJV
We see by this verse, that the kingdom of God is a spiritual
kingdom, not a physical kingdom. (2Corinthians 10:3-5, Ephesians 6:12)
We see that the kingdom of God is within us as the Holy
Ghost.
"For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but
righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost." - Romans 14:17 KJV
How do we become part of the kingdom of God?
"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I
say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter
the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily,
verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he
cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh;
and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." - John 3:3-6 KJV
We see later that being born of water is baptism in Jesus
name, and being born of the Spirit is being baptized with the Spirit, which is
the Holy Ghost.
Jesus’ disciples, even after His death, burial, and
resurrection, still did not understand that the kingdom of God is spiritual,
not physical. God’s kingdom is one of power in the Holy Ghost. Jesus explained
this to His disciples.
"When they therefore were come together, they asked of
him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons,
which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after
that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in
Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of
the earth. And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken
up; and a cloud received him out of their sight." - Acts 1:6-9 KJV
On the day of Pentecost, Peter preached how to be born of
water and of the Spirit.
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38 KJV
To enter into the kingdom of God we must repent and be
washed and justified by the blood of Jesus by baptism in Jesus name. We must be
sanctified by the Spirit of God, which is the Holy Ghost.
"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the
kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers,
nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor
covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the
kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are
sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the
Spirit of our God." - 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 KJV
"Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious
power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; giving thanks unto
the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the
saints in light: who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath
translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: in whom we have redemption
through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: who is the image of the invisible
God, the firstborn of every creature:" - Colossians 1:11-15 KJV
“For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for
ever. Amen." - Matthew 6:13 KJV
