I am baptized in Jesus name so that I can put on Christ and apply the blood that He shed for me for the remission of my sins.

"For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins." - Matthew 26:28 KJV

With the first sin, came the first shedding of blood. It took the death of an innocent animal to cover Adam and Eve after they sinned. It took not only the death of an animal, it took “putting on” that animal to cover their sin after it shed its blood.

"And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. ... And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? ... Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them." - Genesis 3:7, 11, 21 KJV

Jesus, like an innocent lamb, came to die for our sins. When we are baptized in Jesus name, we put on Christ to cover our sins.

"For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ." - Galatians 3:27 KJV

Just as God covered Adam and Eve’s sin by shedding blood and clothing them with coats of skins, He shed His own innocent blood so He could clothe us by baptism in His name.

"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood." - Acts 20:28 KJV

"The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." - John 1:29 KJV

"Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:" - 1 Peter 1:18-19 KJV

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call." - Acts 2:38-39 KJV
