Why I am baptized in Jesus name - Part 13
I am baptized in Jesus name to have my sins washed away.
Jesus loves us so much, that He put on flesh so that He would be able to pay the price of HIS VERY OWN sinless, holy blood. (He is our Heavenly Father!) It is when we are baptized IN JESUS NAME that our sins are washed away in His blood.
"And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood," - Revelation 1:5 KJV
We WERE sinners, with no hope. But NOW we are WASHED in the name of Jesus when we are BAPTIZED in JESUS name. (And we are sanctified by the infilling of His Spirit!)
"Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." - 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 KJV
And such WERE some of you!! But now we are WASHED in the NAME OF JESUS when we are BAPTIZED in JESUS NAME!
"And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." - 1 Corinthians 6:11 KJV
It is not by works of righteousness which we have done – OUR righteousnesses are as filthy rags! (Isaiah 64:6) We could not pay the price of our sins! For the wages of sin is death. It is only by the MERCY of Jesus that we are saved. It is a GIFT.
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." - Romans 6:23 KJV
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;" - Titus 3:5 KJV
Another translation:
"He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit." - Titus 3:5 NLT
In our new birth, we are born of water when our sins are washed away by water baptism in Jesus name. We are born of the Spirit when we are filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost. (John 3:5)
The mercy of Jesus is displayed when we are baptized in His name Jesus – His name called upon us - all our sins being washed away by the blood He shed for us, and when He fills us with the GIFT of His Holy Spirit.
When Apostle Peter preached on the Day of Pentecost,
"…They were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:37-38 KJV
"And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord." - Acts 22:16 KJV
