Why I am baptized in Jesus name - Part 11
I am baptized in Jesus name because Jesus is the one that was crucified for me.
Paul the Apostle wrote to the church in Corinth:
"For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ." - 1 Corinthians 1:11-12 KJV
Another translation says:
"Some of you are saying, "I am a follower of Paul." Others are saying, "I follow Apollos," or "I follow Peter," or "I follow only Christ."" - 1 Corinthians 1:12 NLT
Paul asked them,
"Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?" - 1 Corinthians 1:13 KJV
Another translation puts it,
"Has Christ been divided into factions? Was I, Paul, crucified for you? Were any of you baptized in the name of Paul? Of course not!" - 1 Corinthians 1:13 NLT
Paul was glad he had not baptized many people so that it could not be said he baptized in his own name.
"I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name. And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other." - 1 Corinthians 1:14-16 KJV
Paul makes it clear here, the one we are to be baptized in the name of is Jesus! We are to be baptized in the ONE that was crucified for us, Jesus Christ.
Just as Apostle Peter preached when the church began on the Day of Pentecost and is still the same being preached today!
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38 KJV
