"And he said unto them, These are the words which I
spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled,
which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms,
concerning me.
“Then opened he their understanding, that they might
understand the scriptures, and said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it
behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: and that
repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all
nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things.
“And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but
tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on
high." - Luke 24:44-49
The Old Testament is the Jewish Bible. It foretold of the
gospel – the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Father
manifest in flesh.
Jesus told His disciples the gospel would be preached
beginning at Jerusalem. The gospel is repentance and remission of sins by the
name of Jesus, with the promise of the Holy Ghost. (Acts 1:8)
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
“For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to
all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
“And with many other words did he testify and exhort,
saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
“Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and
the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
“And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and
fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers." - Acts 2:38-42
