Why I am baptized in the name of Jesus – Part 4
I am baptized in the name of Jesus because all of the New Testament church was baptized in the name of Jesus.
The church began on the day of Pentecost, when Jesus poured out His Spirit for the very first time.
Jesus spoke to His disciples right before He ascended into heaven,
"And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem." - Luke 24:46-47
Just as Jesus commanded, Peter preached repentance and remission of sins in the name of Jesus among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. (Acts 2:38, 2:5).
"And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven." - Acts 2:5
Peter preached Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. (Acts 2:22-24).
"Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?" - Acts 2:37
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38
"Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls." - Acts 2:41
On the Day of Pentecost, the first converts to the New Testament church were baptized in the name of Jesus.
