Part 3
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life…” How is Jesus the life?
In the beginning, in the garden of Eden, when Adam and Eve broke their covenant with God and ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, death came upon them, and upon all mankind after them.
"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" - Romans 5:12
"But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: that as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord." - Romans 5:20-21 (also: Romans 5:15, 17).
Life is in Jesus by the gospel. The gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection ofJesus. (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).
"But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:" - 2 Timothy 1:10
The gospel gives us life when we put our sinful nature to death by repentance, then bury that sinful nature by baptism in the name of Jesus.
"But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name." - John 20:31
We have life through His name by the gospel when we are water baptized in His name Jesus.
"He is the one all the prophets testified about, saying that everyone who believes in him will have their sins forgiven through his name."" - Acts 10:43 (NLT)
Our sins are forgiven (remitted) through His name by water baptism.
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission [forgiveness] of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38
Being filled with His Spirit (with the sign of speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance) is resurrection to a new life. (Romans 6:1-23, Acts 2:4).
"I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." - John 10:10 (John 1:4, John 11:25).
"But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life." - Romans 6:22
