Remission [forgiveness] of sins does not take place at
repentance; it takes place through the name of Jesus at water baptism. (Acts
2:38).
Jesus spoke to His disciples before He ascended to heaven.
"Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to
suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: and that repentance and
remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning
at Jerusalem." - Luke 24:46-47
On the Day of Pentecost, the disciples were all gathered in
Jerusalem. On that day, they were all filled with the Holy Ghost for the very
first time.
After they received the Holy Ghost, Peter preached the gospel
– the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus - to all the people that had
gathered.
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38
Just as Jesus said, repentance and remission of sins in the
name of Jesus was preached in Jerusalem to people from all nations.
"Then they that gladly received his word were baptized:
and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls." -
Acts 2:41
Later, Jesus sent Peter to preach the gospel of Jesus to the
Gentiles. (Acts 10:39-40).
"To him give all the prophets witness, that through his
name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins." - Acts
10:43
It was when Peter preached remission of sins through the
name of Jesus that the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. (Acts
10:44).
"And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of
the Lord." - Acts 10:48
"And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and
wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord." - Acts 22:16
