Apostle Paul compares God’s New Marriage Covenant with the church to the marriage between a man and a woman. (Ephesians 5:22-32).
"Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as
unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the
head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church
is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every
thing." - Ephesians 5:22-24 KJV
We submit ourselves to the Lord. Christ is head of the
church. He is our Savior.
"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved
the church, and gave himself for it;" - Ephesians 5:25 KJV
God loved the church and gave His life for her.
(Ephesians 5:2, Luke 22:19-20, Galatians 1:4, Revelation
1:5, Galatians 2:20).
"That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing
of water by the word," - Ephesians 5:26 KJV
To make her holy and clean (to consecrate and sanctify her),
to make her free from the guilt of sin, to purify, by “the washing of water”
(baptism) “by the word” (the promise of the pardon of sins- others take ῤήματι “word”
here as equivalent to 'the gospel,' c). [From: Thayer’s Greek Lexicon].
"That he might present it to himself a glorious church,
not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and
without blemish." - Ephesians 5:27 KJV
"So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies.
He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own
flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
(Hebrews 13:5).
For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his
bones." - Ephesians 5:28-30 KJV
(1Corinthians 12:12-13, 27)
"For this cause shall a man leave his father and
mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
“This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and
the church." - Ephesians 5:31-32 KJV
