The Star
While the shepherds came to worship Jesus at His birth, the
wise men came to worship Him when He was “a young child.”
The Bible records,
"And, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went
before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was. When they
saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. And when they were come
into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down,
and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented
unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh." - Matthew 2:9-11 KJV
They worshiped Jesus in a house, where he is described as a
young child. This was perhaps around the age of one, for Herod “slew all the
children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years
old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the
wise men.” (See Matthew 2:1-23 for the full account).
Balaam, a gentile prophet, had prophesied of a Star.
"I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but
not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of
Israel…" - Numbers 24:17 KJV
Jesus is “the bright and morning star.”
"I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these
things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the
bright and morning star." - Revelation 22:16 KJV
