The Jews call their covenant with the Law as taking upon themselves “the yoke of the commandments.” There are 613 commandments in the Law that they covenant to keep.
The yoke of Jesus is His New Covenant of the Gospel.
Jesus said,
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek
and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is
easy, and my burden is light." - Matthew 11:28-30 KJV
Jesus brought the New Covenant of the Gospel when He died
for our sins, was buried, and on the third day rose again. The Gospel is His
death, burial, and resurrection.
We take His yoke upon us when we learn of Jesus and obey His
Gospel.
On the Day of Pentecost, when the Church began, Peter
preached how to obey the Gospel to enter the New Covenant.
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38 KJV
At first all the church was Jews. Then Gentiles began to be
converted. (Acts 10, Acts 15:3).
"But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees
which believed, saying, that it was needful to circumcise them, and to command
them to keep the law of Moses." - Acts 15:5 KJV (Also Acts 15:1).
"And the apostles and elders came together for to
consider of this matter." - Acts 15:6 KJV (Acts 15:28-29).
Peter spoke about the yoke of the Law.
"Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the
neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to
bear?" - Acts 15:10 KJV
Paul also spoke of the yoke of the Law.
"Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ
hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." -
Galatians 5:1 KJV (Matthew 23:4).
