There are those that pervert the gospel of Christ by pulling
verses out of context. (Galatians 1:6-7). Here are some familiar verses that
some that are NOT preaching the gospel preach as their message of salvation.
The problem is, they leave off the REST of the story.
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord
Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead,
thou shalt be saved." - Romans 10:9
"For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness;
and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith,
Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference
between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that
call upon him." - Romans 10:10-12
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord
shall be saved." - Romans 10:13
The PROBLEM is, THIS IS WHERE THEY STOP with their “gospel”
of salvation.
According to the Bible, what is the REST OF THE STORY?
"How then shall they call on him in whom they have not
believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and
how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they
be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the
gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all
obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?"
- Romans 10:14-16
In the REST of the story, the Bible tells us in these verses
that in order to be saved, we need to HEAR the GOSPEL of Jesus Christ, preached
by a preacher that is SENT FROM GOD. We need to BELIEVE that God robed Himself
in flesh in order to die for our sins, was buried, and rose on the third day. AND
we need to OBEY THE GOSPEL.
What is the gospel?
"For I delivered unto you first of all that which I
also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and
that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the
scriptures:" - 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 KJV (See also 1 Corinthians 1-2).
After we have HEARD the gospel from a preacher sent by God,
to be SAVED we need to BELIEVE and then OBEY the gospel. (2 Thessalonians 1:8).
How do we OBEY the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus?
We crucify our sinful nature by repentance, we are buried
with Jesus by baptism in a watery grave in Jesus name for the remission of our
sins, and we are resurrected to live a new, holy life by the infilling of the
Holy Ghost. (Romans 6:1-13)
On the Day of Pentecost, Peter PREACHED the gospel of Jesus
Christ and then how to OBEY the GOSPEL:
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38
"Then they that gladly RECEIVED his word were BAPTIZED:
and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls." -
Acts 2:41 KJV
