Preachers, preach the word!
People, bring your mind into captivity, keep it from wandering,
and hear the word of God!
"Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that
exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every
thought to the obedience of Christ;" - 2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV
As Hosea said,
"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge …"
- Hosea 4:6 KJV
God ordained that preachers sent by Him would proclaim His
gospel that people might receive it, obey it, and be saved. [Note below:
‘calling on the name of the Lord’ is connected with putting the name of the
Lord on a person, which takes place when a person obeys the gospel, having the
name of Jesus called upon him in water baptism in Jesus name. (Acts 22:16)]
"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord
shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed?
and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall
they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent?
as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of
peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!" - Romans 10:13-15 KJV
We need to not only HEAR the word, but also OBEY the word.
"Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of
naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to
save your souls. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving
your own selves. ... But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and
continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work,
this man shall be blessed in his deed." - James 1:21-22, 25 KJV
Another translation says,
"So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives,
and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power
to save your souls. But don't just listen to God's word. You must do what it
says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. ... But if you look carefully
into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don't
forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it." - James
1:21-22, 25 NLT
As the rest of Romans 10 says,
"But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias
[Isaiah] saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?" - Romans 10:16 KJV
[Isaiah 53:1]
Obey the gospel today! Turn to Jesus and be baptized calling
on the name of JESUS!
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38 KJV
"And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and
wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord." - Acts 22:16 KJV
