Love is not a substitute for Acts 2:38 salvation; it is a result of our Acts 2:38 salvation. It is only by our turning away from sin (repentance), being cleansed from sin (by water baptism in the name of Jesus), and by the infilling of God’s Holy Spirit (the gift of the Holy Ghost) that we can actually love with God’s kind of love. Before we knew God, the kind of love we had for others could only amount to our own works – it was not the love of God because God was not IN us until after we received the Holy Ghost. (He was WITH us, but not yet IN us.) We love with God’s love BY His Spirit.
Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God." - 1 John 4:7 KJV
