Part 6 The Blood Covenants of Pentecost
The Day of Pentecost is the day in which the Holy Ghost was
poured out on the followers of Jesus that were praying in an upper room in
Jerusalem. This was the fulfillment of the promised new covenant. (Jeremiah 31:31-34)
The Day of Pentecost is also the Jewish holy day celebrating
the giving of God’s Law at Mount Sinai.
Each covenant was confirmed with blood.
At Mount Sinai Moses said, “Behold the blood of the
covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words." –
Exodus 24:8 KJV
"And he sent young men of the children of Israel, which
offered burnt offerings, and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen unto the LORD.
And Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basons; and half of the blood he
sprinkled on the altar. And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the
audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and
be obedient. And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and
said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you
concerning all these words." - Exodus 24:5-8 KJV
In Jerusalem Jesus said, "For this is my blood of the
new testament [new covenant], which is shed for many for the remission of
sins." - Matthew 26:28 KJV
The blood of Jesus for the remission of sins fulfills the
prophecy of Jeremiah of the new covenant.
"…For they shall all know me, from the least of them
unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity,
and I will remember their sin no more." - Jeremiah 31:34 KJV
Peter preached the new covenant on the Day of Pentecost,
which was on the same day that the Jews made their covenant of the Law years
earlier. This time the blood applied would not be animal blood that could not
take away sins. This time the blood would be God’s blood, applied through His
name “Jesus” in baptism by immersion for the remission of sins.
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized
every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38 KJV
"For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of
goats should take away sins." - Hebrews 10:4 KJV
"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the
flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the
church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood." - Acts 20:28
KJV
"And that repentance and remission of sins should be
preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem." - Luke
24:47 KJV
"To him give all the prophets witness, that through his
name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. ... And he
commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to
tarry certain days." - Acts 10:43, 48 KJV ["He is the one all the
prophets testified about, saying that everyone who believes in him will have
their sins forgiven through his name."" - Acts 10:43 NLT]
"And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and
wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord." - Acts 22:16 KJV (Revelation
1:5)
Those that entered into the new covenant on the Day of
Pentecost confirmed it with the blood of Jesus by water baptism in Jesus name
for the remission of sins.
"Then they that gladly received his word were baptized:
and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And
they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in
breaking of bread, and in prayers." - Acts 2:41-42 KJV
