There are some that preach that a person is saved simply by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ. They quote the verse, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved..." - Acts 16:31. They pick this verse out of the Word, and disregard the rest. This is perverting the gospel of Christ.
As Paul said,
"I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ." - Galatians 1:6-7
Jesus said preach the gospel - he that believeth AND IS BAPTIZED shall be saved. (Mark 16:15-16)
This is the verse – but what is the REST of the story?
"Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, and brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" - Acts 16:29-30 KJV
"And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." - Acts 16:31
The above three verses are taken from when Paul and Silas were in prison.
"And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed. And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled." - Acts 16:25-27
"But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, and brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." - Acts 16:28-31
The REST of the story says the preachers, Paul and Silas, spoke the word of the Lord to the jailor and his household. The jailor and his household believed. They were all baptized.
"And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house." - Acts 16:32-34
We are not saved by simply BELIEVING the gospel; it takes OBEYING the gospel to be SAVED. (2Thessalonians 1:8) Believing is only the first step. Because we believe, we obey by repenting, being baptized in Jesus name, and receiving the Holy Ghost. Apostle Peter preached how to obey the gospel when the church first began on the Day of Pentecost.
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38

Now you know the REST of the story.
