Building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost

The Bible says,

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." - Ephesians 6:12 KJV

The Bible then says,

"Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." - Ephesians 6:13 KJV

Our defense against the “fiery darts of the wicked” is “the shield of faith.”

"Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked." - Ephesians 6:16 KJV

How do we get this “shield of faith”?

We get the shield of faith to quench the fiery darts of the wicked by praying in the Holy Ghost.

The Bible says,

"But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost," - Jude 1:20 KJV

Two verses after “taking the shield of faith,” the Bible also says,

"And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…" - Ephesians 6:17-18 KJV

How do we pray in the Spirit / pray in the Holy Ghost?

We pray in the Spirit, pray in the Holy Ghost the same way we received the Holy Ghost: we pray speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance.

"And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." - Acts 2:4 KJV (Acts 10:45-46, Acts 19:6, 1Corinthians 14:18).

If you are feeling attacked by the fiery darts of the wicked, take a moment out and pray in the Holy Ghost. You will find joy and peace that passeth understanding.

"And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus [Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus]." - Philippians 4:7 KJV

Cast All Your Care Upon Him, For He Careth For You

Jesus cares about you. Trust Him and love Him. He wants the best for you. Listen to His voice and He will lead and guide you. Cast your cares on Him and He will help you. Draw near to Him, and He will draw near to you.

"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." - 1 Peter 5:6-7 KJV

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." - Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV

"And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." - Deuteronomy 6:5 KJV

"Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him." - Psalm 91:14-15 KJV

All things

God gave Joseph dreams. (Genesis 37:7-10).  In his dreams, his brothers bowed down to him. When he told his brothers the dreams, they hated him. They conspired to kill him, and threw Joseph into a pit. Then, instead of killing him, they sold him as a slave to Midianite merchantmen that were passing by. Joseph was taken to Egypt and sold to Potiphar, Pharaoh's captain of the guard.

Potiphar saw the Lord was with Joseph, so Potiphar made him in charge of everything he had. The Lord then blessed Potiphar.

One day, Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce Joseph. He refused her. Not willing to break his trust with Potiphar, he told her he could not do such great wickedness and sin against God. (Genesis 39:9).

At the end, she accosted him, he fled, and she falsely accused him with false evidence.

Potiphar believed her lies, and put Joseph in prison. (Genesis 39:7-20).

The Lord was with Joseph, and again he had favor. The keeper of the prison put him in charge of all the prisoners. (Genesis 39:21-22).

While he was there, Pharaoh’s chief butler and baker that were put in prison had dreams, which God gave Joseph the interpretation. When the chief butler was going to be released, Joseph asked him to tell Pharaoh of his false accusation. Two years later, the chief butler remembered Joseph.

The Pharaoh also had a dream. He brought Joseph out of prison to interpret it. God, once again, gave Joseph the interpretation. Pharaoh saw that God was with Joseph, and put him in charge of all of Egypt.

When a famine came to the land, Joseph’s brothers came to Egypt to buy bread. Just as Joseph dreamed, his brothers bowed down to him, not recognizing him. When Joseph finally revealed himself to them, they were terrified.

Joseph told them, God has sent me ahead of you to keep you and your families alive.

"So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt...Moreover he kissed all his brethren, and wept upon them: and after that his brethren talked with him." - Genesis 45:8, 15 KJV

There is only One God - His name is Jesus

 Jesus answered Philip,

"He that hath seen me hath seen the Father… the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works." - John 14:9-10 KJV

Jesus is the name of the Father.

"I am come in my Father's name…" - John 5:43 KJV

"In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: who is the image of the invisible God…" - Colossians 1:14-15 KJV

"To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself…" - 2 Corinthians 5:19 KJV

Our Father robed Himself in flesh, born a baby without sin, to be the sacrifice for our sins.

"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." - Matthew 1:21 KJV

When we repent of our sins, and we are baptized in His name Jesus for the remission of our sins, Jesus promises the gift of His Spirit. (Acts 2:38).

Jesus explained to His disciples, He had been with them, but would be in them. He would soon fill them with His Spirit.

"I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you." - John 14:18 KJV

After the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, and after He ascended up to heaven, He kept His promise. Jesus filled His disciples with His Spirit on the Day of Pentecost.

"And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." - Acts 2:4 KJV

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38 KJV

Jesus keeps His promise.

"Baptism is Faith in Action"

 "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned." - Mark 16:16 KJV

"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." - Acts 4:12 KJV

"And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord." - Acts 22:16 KJV

What is the gospel and how are we saved by the gospel?

 

The first four books of the New Testament are called the gospels. They are called the gospels because each one gives an account of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  The gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

We hear the preaching of the gospel, we believe the gospel, we obey the gospel, we are saved by the gospel.

"Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

"For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:" - 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

How do we obey the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus?

Simply stated,

"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." - Acts 2:38

We become dead to sin by crucifying our old sinful nature by repentance.  Our old sinful nature is buried in water baptism in Jesus name.  We are resurrected with a new holy nature when we are filled with the Spirit of Jesus, which is the Holy Ghost.

"What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?  Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

"Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life...

"Knowing this, that our old man [old sinful nature] is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin...

"Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord." - Romans 6:1-4, 6, 11

It is not enough that we simply believe the gospel, we must obey the gospel. (2Thessalonians 1:8). We cannot continue in sin and make it to heaven. (Romans 6:1-2).

It is not enough that we repent of our sins, we need to bury our sins in water baptism in Jesus name.  This is our covenant with Jesus. This is where His blood He shed is applied to our life to wash away our sins. (Acts 2:38, Acts 22:16).

It is not enough that we repent and are baptized, we need to be filled with His Spirit. Then, we are not controlled by our sinful nature, but are controlled by His Spirit. Without His Spirit, we do not belong to Jesus. (Romans 8:9). The Holy Ghost gives us power over sin making us a witness of our new life in Jesus. His Spirit will resurrect us when Jesus returns for His church.
