The “Christmas Tree” is secured upright and placed as a centerpiece in the home where family and friends may gather around it in awe of its glory. Adorned with gold, silver, and lights, gifts placed at its foot and a heav⁵enly star for a crown. Even a song, "O Christmas tree”.
It has long been a pagan custom to set an evergreen tree inside the house during Winter Solstice celebrations, honoring the woodland spirits. (When all the other trees were dead, it was alive – “by a spirit”)
"The idea of bringing the evergreen into the house represents fertility and new life in the darkness of winter, which was much more of the pagan themes," Dr Dominique Wilson from the University of Sydney said.
What does Jeremiah say about this? "Learn not the way of the heathen..." Jeremiah 10:2-6
"Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
"For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
"They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
"They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
"Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might."
