Part 6 - God’s New Covenant

Part 6 - God’s New Covenant

God’s New Covenant marriage was such a priority, that His first miracle in the book of John was at a marriage.

At this miracle God revealed His ultimate mission – His death on the cross.

"And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:" - John 2:1 KJV

Throughout the New Testament, the “third day” refers to the resurrection of Jesus after His death and burial. (Matthew 16:21, 17:23, 20:19, 27:64, Mark 9:31, 10:34, Luke 9:22,18:33, 24:7, 21, 46, Acts 10:40, 1Co 15:4). This first verse immediately connects the marriage at Cana with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.

"And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage." - John 2:2 KJV

The New Covenant marriage is between Jesus and the church (His disciples, including His mother).

"And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come." - John 2:3-4 KJV

Wine (or fruit of the vine) and water can represent both the blood of Jesus and the Holy Ghost. (Matthew 26:27-28, John 19:34, 1John 5:6,8, John 4:10-14, John 7:37-39). It wasn’t yet time.

Only one other time in the Bible did Jesus speak to His mother calling her “woman.” This other time was at the cross. (John 19:25-27).

Jesus used the word His “hour" many times, referring to His suffering and death on the cross. (Matthew 26:45, Mark 14:35, 41, John 7:30, 8:20, 12:23, 27, 12:23, 27, 13:1, 17:1).

"His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it." - John 2:5 KJV

Just do it.

"And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.

“Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.

“And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it." - John 2:6-8 KJV

(#6=man; Filled with the Spirit: Acts 2:4, Acts 4:8, 31, 9:17, 13:9, 52, Ephesians 5:18; Isaiah 12:3).

At the conclusion of the miracle, the final statement is, “Thou hast kept the good wine until now.” The New Covenant truly is the good covenant. (Hebrews 8:6-13).
